Equalizer Headphones That Do Not Cost A Small Fortune?

They're going to ---- if I trade this in. I used a small black anodized heatsink and a pair of tiny tantalum caps on the I/O That sucker will catch fire before that regulator can fail. The @#$%^&! circuit board had neither a fuse nor fusible circuit trace link. Two grand for that piece of @#$%^&! (?) Someone is HOSING the medical system meaning the taxpayer. The inline 12 volt brick is capable of 7.12 amperes at 12.16 volts. The 78xx hates one thing....input above 30 volts. ZERO TVS and ZERO low voltage MOVs on the power input. The meaning of the latter is CAUTION IF YOU CONNECT DIRECT TO A 12 VOLT RV BATTERY SOURCE. Without question DISCONNECT/UNPLUG A CPAP or BiPAP before starting an engine or generator. The BORG has a gigantic circuit board of caps TVSs and MOVs. I'll bet inside that pricey medical P I mean Brick there aren't any either. Pancho Villa Rides!
Meanwhile it's subtitled movies and mono music. I have an audio test Monday. I bet I end up with a six hundred dollar mastoid transducer with $1.59 parts inside and batteries that last three hours.

At a major IC company for centuries I was running the group responsible for design of the high speed computer controlled test systems for analog/linear circuits. The TO220 regulator line was one of our responsibilities ... including the 78XX TO220 series. Hard to believe, but even way back then the testers for those circuits cost a cool $300K-$400K each. The power supplies in the testers had square outputs ... they were programmable to produce any spec'd current at any spec'd voltage and turn on and off in milliseconds ... as needed for the complete suite of tests that were completed in a few hundred milliseconds.

Deafness does not play fair - mine droops several narrow frequency bands that are heavy in the 400 - 1KHz range. Speech. Pumb ubp da vyume and it causes ringing, aggravated tinnitus and p-a-i-n. This new 32 channel equalizer looks promising.

What kinda laptop ya got anyway????

Both of the laptops I've had drive plain old cheapy wired headphones just fine using the headphone jack on the side of their chassis .... way too much volume at max, and stereo ... too.

I even wanted to cut out more outside noise when wearing the El Cheapo wired headphones with the laptop ... bought a set of those cheap noise muffling plastic ear protectors that you wear around loud power equipment. Took the guts out of the El Cheapo wired headphones and glued them into each side of the cheap noise muffling plastic ear protectors. Walla ... wired headphones for the laptop that let "no" outside noise in. I even soldered a small inline pot into the headphone cord from the laptop so I could get some local volume control without having to mess with the laptop's sound card on-screen volume slider.

Just cuz I live in CA doesn't mean I shouldn't go El Cheapo as much as possible.

P.S. Many laptop sound cards have several sound adjustments modes - including equalizer functions - so you can tweak the sound in just the way you want it.

Hi Mex,

Desktops allow a decent audio card which may provide excellent sound. Audiophile quality costs an arm, a leg and your first child.

Driving head phones from a laptop--well the sound card won't be wonderful. Volume may be limited.

Radio shack used to sell a small booster amp that could drive a small speaker or head sets. It was acceptable sound quality to me.

I am in Ensenada. Home has zero internet in any form. Monday 5 medical appointments including neurosurgeon. I am going to need A) complete over the ear phones or b) a granite slab but finding the best value earphones that plug into a computer is hard in Mexico sans internet. Can a computer audio push good earphones? Somehow I keep missing the answer to this question. Tonight my BiPAP blew up and my heart (pain) is telling me I am in deep fertilizer (1-1/2 hours sleep). Respironics fails to switch on - brick has power LCD screen flickers the unit is 8 years old. I hope the cardiologist appt can help Medicare service provider NATIONWIDE MEDICAL* said "BiPAP repair is your issue not ours. There are no alternative providers period. It's the way the system works".

My frustration on rv.net showed when I said I quit. Post 17 times, never appeared. Temper tantrum. Then the internet failed totally. 150 mile round trip nearest internet. Cell phone: American voice says "I'm sorry but the 619 area code you dialed (USA) is not available at this time". I'm sliding downhill, Frustrating. Brought first household goods load to Ensenada. 2nd and final load in May. Moving here closer to border for medical.

I used to have a mixer similar to this one that I found on Ebay. I would use my laptop to feed the mixer then use the output of the mixer to feed an amp for a DJ setup. The mixer has a headphone jack on the front that you can use to monitor the output of the board or whatever channel you switch to "cue" position. The headphones can be turned up pretty loud and are after the equalizer, so any equalization you apply is heard in the headphones.

The one I use now connects via USB instead of the audio jack, but is way more that the budget you mentioned. I have no connection to this Ebay seller and have no idea how trustworthy they are, but this serves as a good example of something you can look for used that will do what you need without the need to buy additional equipment other than possibly a cable to go between the laptop and mixer.

If a software equalizer that runs on your laptop will not do what you need, this may be something that could work. You might be able to use it for other thing besides your laptop as the source.

Just A thought ( I am assuming you are trying to listen on a laptop with low volume and bad speakers) If you don't actually need headphones, how about cheap powered computer speakers using a equalizer on the laptop to brighten up the conversational frequencies.
VLC media player has a volume control that goes up much higher than the normal media players, I use it when watching movies on airplanes to hear over the engines.
