Gmail Question

Gmail uses labels instead of folders, functionally the same... kind of. There should be a menu item (for me above the message, under three vertical dots) filter messages like this, bringing up a couple of pop ups setting parameters of the filter- sender, message, size, etc. actions include “apply label”, which gives the option of creating a new label.

Select the note you want to file by opening it or putting a check mark to it's left. Then click "Move To", and it will open a popup showing the existing folders, as well as a blank line that you can use to create a new folder/label.

In gmail, you use labels to simulate folders. So, to "put a message in a folder", you add a label to it and then archive it.

You can also use filters to automatically add labels to incoming messages.

I put a check mark in the box at the beginning of the message.

Then open the menu in the "more options" box above the message list and select which folder you wish the message to appear in.

Then click "go".

The message you selected will then appear in the folder you picked and also still be in your inbox. You can then delete the one in your inbox if you wish.

This is what works for the version of Gmail that I have. :) . Don't know what that is however but just what I have always had.

to get the message out of gmail and into a folder elsewhere, select the PRINT option, then instead of a printer, select "save as PDF", and say where to put it. Then as a PDF, it can be viewed, printed, or converted to a document. There does not appear to be any way to just save a message out of gmail, but someone else may have a better solution. I hope they will share.

I use gmail but with an email client. Folder creation, rules, etc. are identical to other emails.

I hate webmail.

if using the gmail webpage from your browser
click on the 3 vertical dots,on the left side of the page, above your list of emails
use the scroll bar, goto the bottom of the list, clear more, scroll some more
you will find manage labels and create new label

create the label folder you want

you can then check mark the email and move it
you can create a filter so that specific emails goto that label

Maybe some gmails work differently. Here is how mine works when accessed from my Chrome browser.

Open an email in the inbox. There are 9 icons at the top just under the search box. Clicking on the 8th one (a solid arrow pointing to the right) allows you to create a label/folder or to move the email to a previously created folder. Clicking on the 7th one (a folder with a small arrow in it) allows you to move the email to a label/folder. This only works in the inbox for some reason.

I have been using Thunderbird for probably over 15 years.

Anyone who has more than one email account, especially on different service is doing themselves a great DIS-SERVICE by not using an email client. You can easily copy the contents of one folder on one service to a folder ON A DIFFERENT SERVICE !

One of the best feature is the easy of embedding images. Simply Copy and Paste anywhere in the document. Easily insert horizontal lines, tables, links, etc. regardless of what server/service you are using.
