Importing into Windows Movie Maker?

Something is wrong here or something is flying right over my head.

We want to get photos off of a CD that has been put together before with music and get that into the above subject program for editing.

We have done that before, but since then a bunch of things went on with windows which caused it reconfigure unexpectedly.

Now we cannot figure how to get the contents off of the CD and into the subject program for editing. Maybe we had a brain dump also.:h

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

you are describing our issue/problem. I did not completely follow you on how to remedy though.

So is there a program that I can beg, borrow, steal, or buy that will wade through all this stuff you folks are describing and what has us frustrated?

We (wife mostly) got things running today. Still have a problem. If a slide show is created with no music all is well and the pictures stay in the file.

If music is added and the slide show is set the way she wants it and then it is filed, when the file is retrieved over half of the pictures will be blank.

As best as I can figure from poking around is that a screen came up about using proprietary sound.

We are still stumped since the music is off her ITunes.

I am burned out for today and will resme and digest your posts more but not today. Just thought I would update about that proprietary info.

    thnaks all.

It seems like the music file that your wife is trying to use is being blocked due to a copyright, etc. type of coding. ITunes may not allow the use of files downloaded to be used in any other way and this is where the "proprietary sound" warning screen is coming from. Basically, "proprietary" means you don't own it and you can't use it for any purpose but what we sold it to you for or allowed you to download it for - which was not to use it for a slideshow, etc.
  • Depending on the program used to make the video or slide show, the pictures may not be on the CD in their original format. You may be looking for something that isn't there.

I've made about 30 videos of travels and group activities, some with other products before MovieMaker came out, many with movie maker. Some are strictly slide show, some mixing stills and video. Some I've further developed into multiple-video DVD-video.

All of these, the product is a video file (AVI, WMV, MPG) and the original picture files aren't there. The video file can in some be imported into a video editor, as a source file to a new project, or to cut someting out of it, but that doesn't mean I have the originals, for those I have to go back to me project folder where editingand video burning instructions are stored, along with locations or original or intermediate media files.

Insome cases, particularly when writing VCDs or DVDs for players, the editing program writes files that it cannot bring in as source material.

There are other slide show programs that do save the pictures, along with instructions for player them, but the pictures might be a reduced size.

I just don't know what you used originally.
  • Are all the pictures stored in the same file/folder? Are you saving the project to that same folder? When you see the blank squares, if you click on it does it ask you if you want the software to find the picture? I have found that putting all the pictures, music clips and the saved project in the same folder makes it a much easier to manage.JMO

  • If you saved the final output to computer or dvd, I don't think you can reopen it and make any changes to it.
  • Do you mean that the CD contains photos together with music, which generally indicates they are no longer in an image format, but a slide show format. Could be the format is not compatible with Windows Movie Maker. What format are the CD files? What's the file extension? Basically, right-click the CD in Windows Explorer and select Open to check.
  • do not auto run the cd
you might need to turn auto run off

    insert cd
    open my computer
    find the cd drive
    open/explore the cd
drag and drop the pictures to a folder on your desktop aka the 'C' drive
