Losing local channels

When we are in our motorhome, we use our Kingdome to access our dish programing. As long as we are in the open it works great getting all three satellite's 110,119 and 129. When the dome is blocked we lose everything including local channels. What I want to know is how do I set up a system so I can still use my batwing antenna to get local channels when dome doesn't work?
  • I am going to use his analog converter until we buy new TV's. I have one for the bedroom and we were already talking about buying one for the Front TV. The outside TV will come from an extra TV (led) we have in a bedroom in the house so I really just need to buy one TV.
  • New TV's or the digital to analog converters I mention in the post above. About $50.
  • Sorry I didn't answer sooner, something came up. I fixed the problem, it was a matter of the TV's being outdated, I borrowed a friends dtv box he had from his house and now it works. I guess its time for new TV's.
Thanks all for the reply's. It great o get help when you need it!!

Depending on your Video switch system

If you have the wall switch.. IT depends on how badly you screwed up the factory wiring. Thus I have to be "Eyes on" to advise

If you have (As I do) a box of many buttons (BOMB) you simply run the VCR or any other OUTPUT lead (LIke TV-3) to the OTA-Antenna jack on the sat receiver and push the ANT button for that switch output.

OR push the ANT button for the tv.

    Or better yet.

Get an A/B switch (Basic slider switch) or two (one per LNB input to receiver(s))

Hook the wire from the king dome to the "A" input on the switch
Hook a wire from a bulkhead (Through wall) or basement ground block to the "B" connector (NOTE: Use RG-6) and a short RG-6 Jumper from the remaining (Switched) connection to the Receiver.

Carry a tripod and ground mount dish. Set it up beyond the evil signal eating tree.
  • Some folks may not be aware that the standard Winegard "batwing" OTA power supply wall plate has 2 coaxial output feeds -- TV1 & TV2.

We only have 1 Jensen TV (small Class C), so we run the 1st coax feed directly to our TV and run the 2nd feed into the OTA Antenna port on our Dish 211K receiver. That receiver runs into our TV with a separate HDMI cable, so we get our HD feeds.

If we can't get a satellite signal, we can always get the OTA tuner feed. When we can get a signal, we can also use the 211K to record both an OTA channel and a satellite channel -- as well as watching a second OTA channel or a previous recording!
  • My dish and antenna are both pluged into the TV and I just change the input using the TV remote.
  • OTA TV and satellite TV are 2 completely separate systems and they should operate completely independent of each other. If your coach does not have a video control center where you push a button to select TV, Aux, VCR, etc then there will either be an A/B switch or you might find that the TV connection has been run to into the back of the satellite receiver. If that's where your OTA TV connection exists then the satellite receiver is your A/B switch. Turn the off the receiver and you get OTA TV. Turn it on and you get Satellite. You will have to run a new channel scan once you figure out how the OTA TV is connected to watch those channels. Since you mention you have a 2003 coach, have the TV's been updated to the new digital TV's? If not, you would be able to watch satellite but not OTA TV unless you also install a digital to analog converter box for your older TV's. Radio Shack still has these in stock and have the required analog pass-through option. You would need one for each TV.
  • Unless someone (or you) have modified the switchgear in your AV setup, there should be an A/B switch to select between SAT and OTA Antenna? If that has been removed, you just need to find the antenna wire and buy a simple A/B switch to handle it.

Some Satellite receivers also have an Antenna input, so you can connect the antenna directly to the receiver and the OTA signal will flow through it when the receiver is turned off........
