Shortcuts on the desktop or bookmarks in the browser, they both work. I personally, use bookmarks within my browser but often setup shortcuts on the desktop when helping others.

Another fun thing you can do is go to your C drive and type *.ico to search for icon files. You can copy on you like to another folder or just copy it's location.

Then, right click on your new shortcut, select properties, then click the change icon button. Use the Browse button to go to the location of your icon file, select it, and click OK.

You can also get icon files on the internet via a Google search, but be careful - lots of bad stuff associated with "Free" stuff.

I use my browser toolbar for my shortcuts only because I always have a browser open. My DW on the other hand does not and likes them on her desktop so it is a one-click operation to get where she wants to be and she doesn't have to click on the browser then on the shortcut. It has little to do with understanding how a computer works but everything to do with what works for you.

People WITHOUT a chromebook like you and me, if using IE, can also just click on the file button in the upper left corner, and in the open menu, go to send, slide mouse pointer over to the right and in that sub menu, click on to desktop. This will create the shortcut.

Um, the above suggests a lack of understanding about how systems work. The operating system is involved in EVERYTHING your computer does, including web functions. For his needs, the OP was asking how to automate several inputs (clicks) into a process that took only one to initiate, which is the essence of what computers, and their OS's, were built to do...
By definition, the browser can never be more efficient than the operating system (or vice versa).

Having a desktop shortcut to click on that opens the browser and automatically takes you to a desired site is quicker than first opening the browser and then clicking in the desired site. The shortcuts can even open different browsers for different sites when a given browser handles that site better than another.

You are welcome.. I took the time to check it out before I posted.

Way easier on a Windows box than on an Android though some Android versions give you a "Put shortcut on home page" option.

Can't believe people are making this so difficult. If you have the desired web page open in your browser, click on the little globe next to the url and drag it to the desktop. Done. It will be named automatically but you can change the name by right-clicking and select Properties.

We have forty or so SHORT CUT LINKS on our DESKTOP. They got so many I had to create a DESKTOP FOLDER named LINK FOLDER and move of those links to it. Now I only have one link folder taking up space on the desktop.

My desktop is usually a scene of some sort of groups of pictures we have taken and is in SLIDE SHOW mode changing views every few seconds.. Right now i am just displaying STARRY NIGHTS views. Then I might switch to one of our favorite RV CAMP GROUND groups of photos etc...

I only have maybe five or six LINK ICON FOLDERs down the left hand side on my desk top screen. The rest are located in the bottom TASKBAR for the main things I jump to...

I am also a big fan of DUAL SCREEN with remote keyboard - mouse- speakers for my LAPTOP SETUP which is setting in the corner with the lid down. My two screens are 24-inch DEL MONITORS...

When we go camping I just grab the laptop and plop it down into a similar setup in my RV SETUP. Have all my data stuff with me at all times doing it this way...
