Rand 7710

have one question about the rand 7710. Can you download your own custom routes to it. all the Garmin's do, this is a feature I use all the time I prefer doing my own routeing.

Thanks for the replies. Seems like the answer is no to doing your own routes. The Garmin RV760LMT will do this and has the RV features. Cost more of course but looks like the way to go for me anyway.

You can do it with the Garmin and use their free software or free software like Tyre. The Garmin is the same price as the Rand 7720.

To the OP: I've had a 7710 since it came out. Use it regularly.

While (as others have said) you can download POIs from various sources, I've not found a way to download an actual trip to the device. So if you are looking to do something like create a trip in MSoft S&T and then download it to the 7710, no, I'm not aware of any way to do it. S&T does allow you to export a GPX file but the 7710 doesn't seem to use that format.

I sent an email to Rand McNally from their website asking that question. I never did get an answer.

I can download my own POIs on my Rand 7725. Check here for customized POIs. You can't use them all, but the CSV files can be used by Rand.

The OP is not looking for POIs but how to move a route and itinerary with stops from his PC mapping software to his Rand. Can you do this on your Rand 7725? If so, let the OP know how.

  • There is a Rand McNally Forum over on POI Factory. It is not very active but someone there will definitely be able to tell you how to do this - if it can be done. Come back and share what you learn!

You will have to register with that site to post on the forum. It is a great site for information and free POIs for most GPS units.

  • Don't have a rand. I have a garmin. Found it to be pretty useless. Free lifetime updates but that takes s lng time. We use maps on the smart phone and it works better and updating is quicker. Basically a free device since I already have a smart phone. There is also a navigation app the also works well.
