Rand McNally 7710 GPS

We are having trouble with our GPS. When you turn it on (if it does come on) it then freezes up. We have tried resetting it and also got on the internet looking for a solution but nothing seems to work. The unit is about three years old. Waiting till we get home to call the company just thought there might be a quick fix we or over looking.
Thanks for all comments
  • I have the RM7710, bought it when it first came out, I haven't had any problems with it. Lucky I guess!
  • Piece of junk right off the assembly line. Had one repaired several times and eventually it was replaced with a second new one no better than first. It froze in the first 16 miles. Rand McNally replaced it with a 7720 and it has worked flawlessly.
  • Had the same problem. At 3 years you are out of warranty and RM won't do anything about it. Buy a Garmin.
  • We had one of those for about three weeks. It froze then died. We picked up our Garmin 760 and it runs without a flaw.
  • We have a Rand McNally (don't know #) and it does the same. Frustrating!!!! Will do the diagnostics like suggested.

We also have Rand McNally 7710. This is the typical action when battery gets low on mine.

I had 2 replaced because they would freeze up. I finally gave up and went back to a Garmin. I got the DEZL and love it. Hated the 7710.
  • Two quick thoughts... first, having one myself I've found that it doesn't play nice if the battery is low. Make sure it's fully charged up, best using the AC charger.

Second, see if you can get it to boot while connected to a PC with the docking station software. If you can, run the Diagnose and Repair function in the Setting section of the doc software and let it search and fix any bad files.

Beyond that, you are calling Rand customer support.
