While I won't argue, I have two WD 2GB USB drives on my 211z's and they're working great.
your saying you can record on your 211Z without adding a hard drive?
seems odd as even Dishnet themselves tell you to be able to record with such u have to buy the add on hard drive?
Can u explain better for me - azjeffhExplorer

You add an external hard drive with a separate power supply (some argue not necessary). You then call Dish, tell them you have added a hard drive and want to activate the DVR service. There is a 1 time $40 charge and you have have as many DVR's on the account as you want. Once the software is downloaded to your receiver you will have a signal tuner DVR. It won't work like a standard DVR where you can watch one channel and record another but it will DVR whatever channel it is tuned to.
thanks I will look into that aspect when I set set up next month
You are welcome! Glad to help. - usersmanualExplorer

I then moved the dish and the DVR works as long as you do not go back to scan for satellite. I was not aware of this and this is the first time I have tried it without a signal. I had to move it to my nieghbors site to get a signal lock but I did not want to leave it in his way.
Thanks

just setting up a new 211Z I was told they don't have recorder capability? what does one need to be able to do so with the 211Z - Bill_SatelliteExplorer IIThe OP was about a Dish Network receiver.
