Winegard X2 Satellite receiver?

Are these connected to the TV in your RV via a conventional coaxial cable thru the port where you normally hook up to cable TV? Do you then just put the receiver inside, connecting the input line and the TV?

To get started, could I just buy an X2 bundle for $500 from Winegard and pay Dish their pay as you go rates (depending on package)? Is there any other hidden cost involved?

Thanks in advance for your replies!
  • More than likely the cable in will not work. This has been discussed at length so here is a quick summary. Splitters, poor connections, and wrong cable types are not very conducive to watching satellite TV. To do it right you really need to run a dedicated coax cable from a convenient location to the necessary location for the sat receiver.
Now, you can buy decent antenna packages for around $150.00 from several online retailers that will work fine. Or there are several portable automatic dishes that Winegard sells for a lot more money.
Pick up a receiver, connect it to your TV and antenna via the correct cabling call the satellite provider and set up an account. Sit back and watch your favorite programming.
  • You need to verify the cable inside the rig first.
Look closely for markings on the cable. It needs to be RG-6
Check to see that the cable goes directly from the outside to an accessible point in the rig as the satellite must go directly from the dish to the receiver. Most of the time the cable goes to the power supply of the antenna first.
If you have satellite at your home, you could take a standard receiver from the house and use it with any dish that accepts your existing service.
  • The basic setup is one coax cable run between the receiver (inside you coach) to the Pathway X2. You connect the receiver to your TV and it works. You will be able to use this setup with the Dish PAYG service and there are no additional fees. You can find the current pricing for the PAYG service here:
    Dish PAYG
The only issue is the coax connection between the antenna and your receiver. As mentioned, the "Cable" connection will not work as it is setup from the factory but may be able to be modified with an A/B switch to use with one or the other. If you are not familiar with your coach wiring you will need to talk to someone knowledgeable about your coach. You can see if there is a forum for your specific model RV or chat with a dealer about setting up this option. It's always best to run a new dedicated cable to ensure the best connections but not always necessary.
  • In our last TT it did not work untill I found the wire in the wall and changed it to go stright to the dish box. On the TT we have now there are two hookups on the side one says "ant/cable" and one says "satellite" and it works fine. That cable goes stright to the box.
