Metered Electric Cost

We spent less than $35 a month for the month we stayed in Yuma, AZ and the month we spent in Rodeo, NM. Both places charged 14 cents per kilowatt hour. Mostly ran the fridge, plugged in various devices to charge, TV, and turned off the hot water heater when we weren't using it.

Let me put it this way: When it comes to metered electric service.

Some states have passed laws that limit the cost to the camper to either the cost to the campground or a small multiple of that. (like 1.5 or 2.5)

Other states need to pass such laws.

Now think about why such a law is needed?

(HINT some campgrouds mark electricty up, WAY WAY WAY up).

NOTE; Campgrounds fall into 2 or 3 groups.

Some (Example; Where I am parked now) do not meter power at all, though they may charge you more for a 50 amp rig than for a 30.

Some: Meter monthly or "Long term" residents, but do not meter nightly (weekly may or may not as well)

I have never been to a CG that meters ALL, but ... possible it is.

I agree with one of the initial answers, too many variables. Illinois electric rates are generally higher than Florida. We use a CG in Illinois for an extended stay (3 - 5 months) in the summer and electric is included. I have a buddy in a nearby CG in Illinois that pays metered electric and his GC doubles the utility company rates! They claim they are trying to pay for meters which they had to purchase....whatever....

Most CG's in Florida start charging metered electrical usage after a month or so, but then their rates go down also.

Last August we stayed a month at C G in Gainsville ,Fl . Ran air 100% of the time . Elec bill was $31 . 20 foot T T .

$20-120 depending on air/con usage and kwh rates.

Almost always works out cheaper to stay for a month and pay for electricity, though not all places will meter electricity with month stays.

I'm in Phoenix for the winter and running heat on electric and also water heater and the fridge. Electric is .15/kwh and I'm running about $100/month.

So far for month stays or longer. I have been able to find campgrounds for less then $400 a month with electric included.
They are some but very few out there.
Last one I stayed out with metered was 15¢ a kw over 10 years ago.
My cost varied from 90-$110 in summer running 2 AC's at times.

Last 4 summers I stayed at 3 different campgrounds with FHU and electric included.
Ran from $320 to $350 a month. I will be back to a $350 one this summer.

It's a tough question and would depend on usage as well as equipment. Obviously air conditioning sucks up power but the big culprits are the water heater (on electric) and the propane electric fridge (on electric). If you have a residential fridge you will have an advantage as they use about a quarter of the power of a propane electric when run on electric. Washer dryer. Even TV depending on size and age can contribute considerably to the bill. However, if you are on metered you will definetly pay more attention to your usage. :).

our 12 month avg. is $64. High summer months is $105. we are billed .16/kwh.
