Newbie from Indiana - Maiden Voyage
My wife and I are music fans and have attended several festivals over the past 20 years.
Some tent camping and more pop-up camping with some great friends that let us share their p-up.
With a 3 year old, we wanted to have our own and let him grow up with camping/RVing.
After our last festival we knew that we wanted to move forward and fast (in order to be able to enjoy the rest of the season). My wife suggested a pop up. We could probably keep that in our small driveway or front of house. I knew that I didn't even want THAT much work (cranking and popping - ha).
Our tow vehicle is a 1983 Chevy K5 Blazer with a 350 ci small block Chevy motor and 700r4 transmission.
We watched every YouTube video we could find on travel trailers.
We feverishly searched the want ads and local dealers until we found our 1991 Skamper M2330T - Floor plan A.
We thought about it for several days and looked at it twice.
The sellers had outgrown it and kept it immaculate inside.
We purchased it last week and took it out for the maiden voyage Saturday afternoon.
We decided to go to a very local state park. We would be 5 minutes from my parents and 20 minutes from home. Lots of shopping and parts stores near by in case of massive failure.
Happy to report that our first overnight camping trip was a success.
We had to run to Wal mart for a longer potable water hose and some hot dog roasting sticks and charcoal lighter.
We are keeping the trailer in a storage lot just 5 minutes from home for the first month or 2 as we will spend a fair amount of time stocking, cleaning, learning. It's a little large to keep at home for any extended time. It will eventually stay at my MIL's house on a large gravel driveway/parking lot.
We hope to have several more trips before the weather keeps us at home.
So far we love it !
