Camco Gen-turi generator exhaust system

Going to the Albuquerque Balloon Festival this Fall. RVs will really be parked close together and it is dry camping where we will be. Will be using our generator quite a bit. Does this system work and is it worth the money? Looks like in addition to the system an extender to get it at least 6" above roofline and rubber suction cups to affix it to the RV cost extra (don't want to permanently attach the strap that comes with the system to the RV). Looking for input from those who are or have used the system.

In today's litigious world you can guarantee any company selling a device designed to save lives has put a lot of thought into it.

Imagine using the Camco device and someone dies from CO poisoning.
How much do you think it's gonna cost Camco?

I trust they put a lot of thought into their design.

I didn't exactly miss it. You have a gap on the horizontal not the vertical.Heat rises vertically.
I imagine yours is cooler because you're not capturing all the exhaust/heat. Some of the exhaust and CO is escaping and so is the heat.
It is unlikely the aluminum would be cooler if all parameters were equal simply because Aluminum is a better conductor than plastic.
The lower temperature is an indicator you are not capturing all the exhaust.
The idea is to capture ALL the exhaust not some or most of it.
Again better than nothing but I would not consider it better than the real thing.

Lantley, guess you missed the air gap at the bottom. I found a 2" gap created the lowest temp half way up the gutter... 120 degrees. Factory ones at the same time and on the same 10K generator was 135 half way up.

I made my own, just because I could and not to save money, which I didn't really. I have three pieces of 3" abs pipe and elbow and it really looks like the CAMCO version. The only thing I would do different is to have the elbow run about two inches up into the vertical stack for greater noise reduction. That version is or was available from CAMCO.

I made a yolk from some 3/8" birch ply and a suction cup for holding onto sheets of glass to mount it to the RV. It works great and I goofed one day while testing it out on the new rig,

I didn't get the suction cup and yolk assembly attached before I installed it and it only took a couple of minutes for the vibration from the Onan to cause the weight to loosen the exhaust pipe from the manifold. Now I have to fix that. But yes they are a good accessory.

They could have used just a solid elbow as well.
Note the air gap at the bottom of the stack pipe. It is not a solid elbow like the gutter version.
Your idea is cheaper and better than nothing, but I would not call it better.
If it were truly better than the original, I imagine a competitor would have massed produced and marketed the gutter version by now.

My generator is on a 3' slide out making it impossible to have a fixed exhaust. The Monaco group at the fest requires an exhaust extension of some type.

I recently parked next to a generator that the exhaust was directed into a pan of water. I was surprised how much of the exhaust smell it took out of the exhaust but doubt it did anything for the Carbon monoxide in it.

I think your analysis is off a bit.

IF the gasses going up the pipe cool off too much the efficient upward flow will be disrupted......sometimes to the point that part of the exhaust "spills" out at the bottom.

The Genturi has the exhaust exiting the "sealed" exhaust pipe pointing UP for a reason.....with the cold air vents also in a vertical direction.

Your setup likely is not NEARLY as efficient as you think it is.
But it still is way better than nothing.

Sometimes the communication is non-verbal.

At about my second race, the first morning that I was there I found a piece of plywood resting against the side of my RV that was deflecting my generator exhaust away from the neighbor who had pulled in overnight.

I stopped on the way home and got my "smoke stack".

Note: it fits my exhaust pipe snuggly enough so that no attachment hardware is necessary.....except for the rubber straps about 1/3 the way up.

Anyone wonder why insulated stainless steel vertical exhaust stacks aren't factory equipment on built in generator equipped rv's?

Wife and I are also headed to the balloon festival for the first time. I searched our local Craigslist for a used Gen-turi and found one...so I will be using ours. I hope other attendees are as considerate as you and I are...who wants to smell exhaust all day/night. Just wanted to commend you for thinking of others in tight quarters.

Used one for 6 years at NASCAR races with our Class A. I had suction dent pullers to keep it in place, worked great and never damaged the rv.

Dent pullers are typically under $10 and you can get them ar Walmart or any automotive stores.

The only thing I did differently is not run the ceiling vent fans when the genny was running to avoid pulling any fumes into the rv.
