We purchased a new 2013 Outdoors RV Blackstone in May 2013. For three years no problem with the fireplace, then last August on a trip to the Eastern Sierras, when we arrived at the campsite, the glass from the fireplace was broken all over the floor. We had stopped for lunch just 60 miles earlier and all was well. I assumed it was just a fluke thing and replaced the glass. Yesterday coming back from Disneyland, when we got home, once again broken glass everywhere. Neither time did anything hit the glass. Has anyone else experienced this?

One could look at our "great" infrastructure. :)

Not something that I would normally suggest, but if you have an alternate driver, you could ride in the trailer to see what is going on. Best to do this in a low traffic area, due to the obvious safety concern/legality.I would think it would take some serious vibration, bad tire, bent wheel, broken suspension. A short ride should give a clue.Jerry

The undercarriage is in good condition, no unusual wear on the tires or on the springs. Since no one else has responded, it must be either the terrible roads in California or there is something in the grooves that hold the glass that is causing it to shatter. Nothing else in our trailer moves from where we leave it. Thanks guys.

A piece of Mica will take a lot of abuse. It easy fairly easy to cut (tends to chip a bit). You can find it at Fireplace stores.

Especially if it's tempered glass, a small nick or flaw in an edge can lead to it breaking when under (comparatively) little stress. It may not have been perfect glass to begin with, or not correctly installed.

The replacement glass was from Dimplex and they made sure I understood that it was out of warranty. By the way they no longer carry the glass for this unit.

We can try to analyze it but I am sure that we can't get a true answer, just guesses.
The first glass lasted three years and then broke. What changed? Same roads? Trailer loaded the same? Three years , depending on the amount of use would probably eliminate a stress crack or a defect in the glass.
You then changed the glass. What kind of glass did you use? Regular window glass? Safety Glass? Glass from Dimplex? Have you contacted Dimplex? This is the first time I have ever heard of the glass breaking on there fireplaces.

Wow. Never heard of that before. Wish I could offer a suggestion, but I think you've stumped a lot of people. Good luck- I sure hope you get it figured out. With me, anything like that that goes wrong bugs me until I get it fixed. Really do miss those eastern Sierras...
