Do those driving glasses really turn "night into day"

I have nearly quit driving at night because it's difficult for me to see. I keep reading about these driving glasses that they say they help. Have you had any experience with them and are they worth the price?

I purchased some night driving glasses I saw on a TV ad. Normally, I don't purchase products hawked on TV, but I did this time. The lenses are yellow and it does cut down on glare significantly. I won't drive at night without them. They were very inexpensive. I got two pairs for $19.95 (for both, special price). I gave one pair to my sister.

At one point I had a cataract problem. Normally my night vision is better than anyone I know, which leads me to suspect I can see in the red spectrum better than most.

Then the cataract problem came up and I found that the amber lenses over my glasses did help in the night vision area. No way could I predict that it will help anyone else.

After my surgery I have not used the amber lenses and things seem normal now.

Yes I agree they don't improve your vision but they do cut the glare.

Actually it was an online ad, probably not that much difference.

If it's on TV it's likely junk.

Some tints will improve the contrast of the scene. During daylight or dusk, that may be enough to help differentiate between the bush and the mailbox.

But once it's night, they are useless. They can't increase your eyes' ability to see in darkness.

I've used them and they help. May have more to do with cutting the glare of oncoming headlights.
They help but I would not say the difference is extreme or night vs. day.

A google search provides this result. "Yellow 'Night Driving' lenses have been shown to provide no benefit in seeing ability at night. They are even hazardous, because they give the driver a feeling of seeing better, which no one has yet been able to explain. Studies have shown that they actually impair visual performance and ****** glare recovery. Many promoters have made unfounded claims for the ability of amber to improve night vision. They have employed mass solicitation, usually by mail. The Federal Trade Commission has correctly ruled that such practices are illegal since the lenses do not perform as claimed." - Forensic Aspects of Vision and Highway Safety", Merrill J.
