- ol_Bombero-JCExplorerFull Timer Insurance (usually) is more expensive. It is what it is.
Funny "Shop Around" Ins. story:
Was in AAA in So CA to renew registration. Being an efficient employee, the gal behind the counter asked if I had gotten a recent ins quote from AAA.
Ans: Yes (true) - but told her AAA couldn't beat my current ins (for the exact same coverage - also true!).
SHE asks, "Who do you have?"
Ans: "Wawanesa"
SHE says, "Oh - we tried to get insurance from them, but my husband uses his car for work - so they wouldn't insure us."
(Honest lady - but hope her AAA supervisor didn't hear that one!!)
BTW - no discount for "bundling" (homeowners & vehicles) - although they have my vehicles, S&B, and 5th wheel.

I'd shop around. Geico has gone up about five percent since I started with them, and my stuff is insured for replacement value.
Perhaps it is a sign of the RV industry's quality controls that claims have skyrocketed these few years. Maybe insurance companies should public statistics on what rigs they have the most problems with in their statistics, and give discounts if someone buys from a maker that has fewer issues. - dons2346ExplorerNational Interstate is getting out of the motorhome market and is switching everyone over to their other company Safeco. I have had full replacement coverage since the coach was new but no moreThen NI said they would do me a favor and let me keep the replacement coverage for one more year but the premium was totally out of sight
- jerseyjimExplorerNational Interstate has been my RV (motorhome) insurance company since day 1 (2001). One claim, no problem. Couple years ago, my agent called...said they had a 'dramatic" increase in rates. I could cut my premium just about in half if I went for the "book value" instead of the "replacement or purchase value".
I went for the "book value". What would you do? Anyway...insurance, generally speaking....HOUSE insurance is voluntary. So it stays relatively cheap. Motor vehicle insurance is, by law, MANDATORY...so they gotcha' by the b**ls and they know it. - Greydog_1Explorer15 % of what equals savings? I checked Gieco savings and it was more than my current insurance. Do they add 15% to the quote to give you the best deal?
- hawkeye-08Explorer IIIyou can save 15% with Gieco says the lizard.

Shop, shop, shop. Don't be loyal to one company, it never pays off. If your agent can't come up with a price you are happy with, time to shop agents
I would disagree. I have had the same agent/agency for over 30 yrs. They have helped keep my prices low and they go out of their way to provide excellent customer service. I have price compared over and over again. The result is always the same; less than $10 a month difference. It is worth it to have someone who knows me and will answer my calls when a need arises. - ExpyinflightExplorerIf you are going to own an RV, you had might as well face it.
We will all need to get used to the reality of increasing rates.
RV insurance used to be relatively inexpensive, due to less risk. It used to be the majority of RV owners were older, probably retired, careful drivers, that had very few accidents.
Owning an expensive RV was a luxury.
Today.....we all know the RV industry is selling all types in record numbers. People of all ages are jumping on board, and buying an RV. Which equates to record numbers on the road. As we have read here in these forums recently, too many of today's RV owners drive at much higher rates of speed. Accidents become catastrophic, and often deadly events. More and more 'inexperienced' owners having accidents and making damage claims. Similar to 16 year old drivers just acquiring a driver's license, there is a learning curve. Mistakes are made. Insurance companies are asked to cover the cost of the damage, and make everyone whole again.
It's pretty obvious that insurance is only going to become......more expensive. As more RV owners come online....the risk increases....along with rates. - RAS43Explorer IIIRalph Cramden,
I found that it is not worth it getting quotes after an accident. I had a traffic accident in 2013 (first ever). My rate did not change but the next year I had roof damage from a tree limb I hit and then my cost increased about 10 percent. When I wanted to shop rates in 2015 my agent said not to bother as all companies have my history and won't offer their best rates. But this year I received a check back on my yearly policy since the accidents don't count against us any longer. I will probably shop again this fall at renewal.
