NEW DOT Re-Cert Requirement for propane cylinders

i already ran in to this,
the pump jockey for the LP fill up at my favorite place, doesn't know the difference between portable cylinders and frame mounted tanks, and tried to convince me he could not fill my tank, that it was all 'tanks' not just portable cylinders, and he could not find the correct markings on my big frame tank

somebody for got to specify the difference, and these minimum wagers don't know the difference

i'm hoping the next time, the regular guy is there, and the might know the difference

maybe after the food trucks give them ^&* and they loose business
the boss will get on the stick and find out the truth

More regulations from faceless, unnamed, unelected bureaucrats that most likely have never even seen a portable propane tank let alone used one.

Had one filled at my regular place last week and the guy slapped a new sticker on it and said you are good to go.

It isn't just the "minimum wagers", it is MOST people. How often do we see forum members talking about 20 or 30 pound "tanks", even though it has been explained many times that they are really NOT "tanks", they are "cylinders"?
Yes, I include myself in that "MOST". I certainly know better, but often, due to laziness or forgetfulness, I find myself saying (or typing) "tank". After all, it IS shorter, and only one syllable!
I will soon find out if the local Amerigas vendor is up to speed on this. I have a 20 lb. cylinder that is empty and outdated. I will be watching to see what happens when I take it in for refill.

All they did was consolidate the dates, so everything is on a 5 year or a 10 year cycle.

As a certified DOT Hazmat shipper, I can assure you that the regulations are written with a lot of knowledge and reasoning behind them. Many industry and user groups have a lot of input into them.

The regulations also clearly specify the difference between a cylinder (the portable small ones on the front) and a tank (the big ones mounted permanently to vehicle.) If your propane vendor has not trained employees, the vendor is negligent.

The regulations are there for a reason, to make sure the general public has a safe, usable cylinder. The fillers make money on the recerts so they should be happy to inspect and comply.

It doesn't seem like there was a problem with the old process other than it didn't sell enough new cylinders.

Interesting, amazing how people complain about any change - even if it is simplification of the rules!

Thanks for the update, I'll try to remember next time I connect my cylinder to my tank to fill it.
