Redwood Owners Issue with Dealer Support

Is this even a 5th wheel topic? Could befor ALL RV's.

I am curious Do you use your RW full time? And in the winter where do you keep your unit? I took my unit to Florida and drove into Vacation Inn and there was a RW dealership across the highway and there had to be 20 RW sitting in there.
I asked a few owners about their RW and they had nothing to say but great things and then I asked them to you use your unit up north and most RW in there never move. So if you are keeping your unit in Florida I guess you would not have freezing problems like mine Take care up there in PA

That was actually my 2nd positive experience with McGeorges, the first was when my ford let me down while in town for the week for NASCAR.. had to move my older fifth wheel with no truck.. Went to them and explained my dilemma, they sent a worker on his lunch to move me from Americamps to the race track. Only charged me $50.00.. and i have never purchased from them.

I feel your pain, buy can honestly say that I have the complete opposite feeling with both RW, and their dealers .. SO FAR . . That could change at any time..

I have been in my Redwood for almost 2 years now with nothing but good results from the dealer ( Whitehorse RV ),the manufacturer, a dealer 5 hours away ( McGeorges)... and a dealer 12 hours away (Tiara)...

Stopped in Ashland VA ( McGeorges) on my way to Florida last year with a charging/battery problem, walked in and asked if they had time. The service writer was at my trailer in a few minutes to diagnose the issue (lose cables) . Spent 30 minutes total on it, and he sent me on my way without charging me. Didn't even fill out any paperwork.

I agree that there is no responsibility for a dealer to do warranty work on a unit sold by another dealer. Also agree you need to contact the manufacturer to find an authorized repair facility.

But if any dealer made those statements to me I would have several things to say as well. Like, "if you don't want to work on my trailer, then I certainly don't want you working on it either and by the way that applies to after warranty work as well". Also I'd ask the question "since we are talking about moving vehicles, what would you do for an out of area owner with an emergency?". Then I might close with "too bad your service bays are so filled up, must really hurt your customers that you can't support them effectively".

Bottom line, there are good ways to run a business and there are shady ways, best to just avoid the latter.

All dealers are that way. They are not required to service units they did not sell. It's not the same as buying a car or truck. Won't matter what brand...Call the manufacturer. They can and will find an independent mobile service person to do the work. You may need to pay upfront then submit it for reimbursement but that beats waiting a month or two to get it worked on, even at the selling dealer. I buy mine wherever I get the best price and have no plans to ever go back to a dealer.
