releasing wdh setup after parking...

Then he isn't doing what is being described here, which is just pulling the pin and yanking the hitch out with the WDH bars still under full tension, not releasing the bars first.
Anyone who is successfully doing this maneuver - just yanking the hitch out and rehooking by doing nothing but sliding the hitch back in - hasn't got their spring bars set so that they are doing anything.
Incorrect and useless spring bar adjustment is the ONLY way this can work, otherwise there's way too much pressure on the hitch trying to rotate itself downward.
Sure, it can be done if you set your spring bars to hold the hitch shank level. But if you do that you're wasting your time even using a WDH, you haven't got it adjusted to work at all.

lol, i'm not driving to florida to make you a video. Like I said, I don't know exactly what he does but that is how he unhitches. He's been RV'ing for about 50 years and he's never had any issues. My guess is he just releases the tension from the bars and yanks the shank pin. Not really rocket science. I don't see any thing dangerous or unbelievable about this. I do think he's awesome at hitching up being able to back up and line the shank back up with the receiver. Better than me.

That's scary stuff. It's ashame some folks just don't know any better. As to unhooking using the method explained by the op, not smart. Lots of things that could go wrong and I wouldn't want my bars and hitch head out in the elements anyway.

I'm surprised by the number of people at the cg who i see just lay the bars and head on the ground under the a frame. Again i suppose they don't know any better or are not concerned with theft?

This Makes me feel very fortunate i had a great dad who took us camping and explained the hooking/ unhooking procedure to me from a very young age and had me help and took the time to answer my questions. I miss him, that's for sure.

He went home to be with the Lord on 8/2/2000, but I'm glad i had him as long as I did. A lot of folks are not as fortunate.

Can we gat a video of him doing it, please.

My dad travels by himself. Been hitching and unhitching like that for years.

Dangerous as other have said, and hooking up, it would take two people - one backing up the tow rig and another holding the stinger horizontal and aligning it to the hitch on the truck.... lots of opportunities for spousal arguments, damaged and pinched fingers, hands and the like.

i think it would be very difficult with mine, a husky centerline, but thats how my Pop always unhitches his. He has an equalizer, i dont know exactly what he does, but he pulls the shank pin and just pulls the truck forward.
