Scheduled for knee arthroscopy next week

Today was the first day of PT. Boy, is my knee stiff. And weak! I was really taken aback at how hard it was just to do a few leg lifts. Getting the leg to straighten is a real trick,too. Oh, well. I will get through this. Thankfully, tomorrow is my first weight bearing day. No more crutches! Yay!

Well thank goodness it's over. I hope it does the trick and gives you some more years with your own knee. Don't worry about getting it replaced some day. It does give more stability when it finally is replaced. My kneecap dislocated with the second scoping I got and there was no turning back.

I did have my surgery. The surgeon told my DH that it was much worse than he thought it would be. There was lots of arthritis and some of it looked like stalactites hanging down. He cleaned all that up and then did some microfractures to get the bone to make it's patch there. I dont' know. I was sleeping...

So, now I am into my 3rd post-op day, only 11 more days until I can bear weight. Didn't need any narcotics today, but I am extremely tired. When I try to get up and go anywhere with my crutches it just seems to take all the wind right out of me. Lucky for me I can work from home cuz there is NO WAY I could get myself parked, walk up to the 14th floor, and then get any work done. Heck, my DH is planning to drive me to the dentist's office tomorrow and I'm already stressing about that!

I go back to the ortho on Thursday, so we'll see how that goes.

Hey Chock, you have your surgery yet? Just checking on you. Don't think I will make AH Stephens,as that is my Friday to work and that's quite a trip for two days. Also the previous weekend, I am taking my mother to visit my DD in Raleigh, so have 8+ hour drive one way then for 3-4 day weekend.

Meniscus tears can be a precursor to arthritis, but if you catch it early, it doesn't mean you will need a replacement for many years, if ever. But it is important to get it cleaned up. Most important part is having the leg in good shape (strength and range of motion) prior to surgery. You shouldn't need microfracture, unless you already have severe arthritis down to raw bone. Arthroscopy doesn't do much else to help arthritis, but definitely will take care of the meniscus symptoms. (I've seen hundreds of them, and the results.) Lots of luck.

Thanks for the encouragement. I just want to be back to normal by March 6. Are you coming to the rally at AH Stephens SP? It might be kind of far for you, but I hope you can make it.

Hey Chock, had my left knee done three times over the last 12 years.... each time cleaning up the tear and the back of my kneecap was a great help. the last time was most difficult, but that was because I didn't do like I needed to when I went back to work, so it got stiff and swollen longer. I also had put the surgery off for many months because the timing wasn't "convenient". Even if you go to PT, ask what exercises you can do at home.. doing the exercise really helps..and Ice is your friend.

Hope all goes well Chock!!! Follow doctors orders. Keep the leg up and don't push things, give it time to heal. I had both knees done and still ended up with a TKR on my right knee in 09. My other knee needs done too. Just keep thinking about how I will get up off the floor if both knees are fake....

My total knee replacement is this coming Monday morning. Hell of a way to start off the week, right? All I can say, it's time to have it done.
