State scales open

Some states leave their scales open when they are closed from weighing trucks. They have a readout so you can drive on the scales and weigh. This is helpful to the truckers and would be great for us RVers.
Which states leave the scales open?
I am pretty sure Oregon is one.
If anyone knows of a list or just experience please let us know.

Thanks

Not so much in the midwest. States I regularly drive through, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, when scales are closed the barricades are up, and sometimes the ramps are also barricaded to close the parking areas. It varies some, superhighways vs US and state highways.

As many times as I've been through it, don't remember passing closed scales in Kansas, know that the doe a lot of roadside weight checks.

Not so much in the Northeast either....

Heavy front axle........good thing for high GVWR

Yep, heavy motor. That was just me and a half tank of fuel. I have 880lbs left on the front axle and a little over 4000lbs of payload left ๐Ÿ™‚

As others have said, they are available to use 24/7 in WA even if they are not officially open. They will help you weigh if they are not busy when they are open. They want you to know what you weigh.

Here in British Columbia our scales are manned Monday to Saturday but on Sunday the scales ( the ones I go by ) are still turned on for personal use. The only difference here is the weights are metric in kilos.

I believe Colorado also leaves them open, stopped in one north of Bolder to weigh the DD Ridgeline pulling a U Haul large tandem axel box trailer that was at max of 5,000# with three adults and two large dogs. That ant the Ridge lines bed and trunk were full!
Just worried about the trailer didn't get the GCVW, but thatRidge line did great in the 1,200 miles from Portland, OR through the Blue Mts and the Rockys.

Along I-95 (From FL to NJ) some states allow truckers to use closed weigh stations as rest stops, however the scales themselves are not usable. Most states along that stretch use weigh-in-motion and the read-outs are inside the tower.

I don't know how helpful to truckers that is, most truckers I know, mostly try to avoid open scales, don't know why they'd stop at a closed one. :h

I've seen quite a few truckers pull into closed truck stops in Oregon. sometimes they appear to have problems, quite often I see loaded gravel trucks, log trucks etc. pull in and run the scales. probably a good way to make sure your legal weight.

Unless there is an issue with the scales, Oregon leaves the exits open and scales and overhead readout on 24/7. I've used them quite often to check weights or check setup changes.

In Ohio they barricade the entrance ramp when the scale is closed.
