Thinking of purchaseing a 2005 Coach House

I am thinking of purchasing a 2005 Coach House 272XL with a Ford V10. Any advice would be appreciate. For an RV of this style would it be better to have a diesel or is the gas going to be fine. I will not be towing anything just headed to the parks and ocean. What necessities should be added to this type of a rig for two people. I'm fairly new to the RV world and just want to get started hearing from some of you there.

PS what should an RV like this sell for if it is in really good condition, low 40's on miles? I'm thinking I can get it for 60K, good or bad deal?
  • Did you ever make that purchase? We too are considering a Coach House, if we ever sell our 2014 SUV-towable travel trailer! When that does happen, we thought we would fly to the CH factory in FL and take a look at their used models. They don't publish prices, so I'm wondering how they compare to private seller or used RV dealers.
  • Thank you for your input folks. Still pondering which direction to go. Seems a bit problematic looking at these rigs from a distance since they are offered out of state. Also question if this is the right place to start with an RV. The Coach House's that I have looked at do seem to be of really good quality and construction. Pretty sure I can find a place to put my golf clubs on this rig.

    :)
  • The Coach House are built in Venice Florida near where I live.
They have a highly rated build quality using a one piece mold for the House.
The ceilings are low so If you are tall I would go see one and see if you are comfortable with the low ceilings. As far as the gas engine which I assume is a Ford V-10, I wouldn't worry about the power or dependability aspect. Mileage will be around 9.
I have a Born Free with the same engine and have no issues.
Go to the site rv site mash and you can see all of the Coach House for sale in the country, price can't be assumed fair unless you have a few comparisons.
    Good Luck.

Theory has it Diesel is better for several reasons.. for one the max Combined gross Vehicle Weight is generally higher and thus they can tow more... That said... I choose Gas, for two reasons.. One being cost (About half) and the other being comfort (I understand Gas Engines better and really hate trusting my ride to a mechanic who may or may not know his you know what from a you know in the ground, with Gas I can at least Audit what he does).

Also some folks like the fact that the big D is many feet behind them and thus the ride is quieter.. Me,, I like the sound of a properly loaded engine. It's music to this farm boy's ears.

So you will note not one of my reasons helps you.. But the point is Gas or Diesel is really a personal decision.. IF I thought I could afford it.. I would likely have gotten Diesel and then studied the engines so I could audit as I do with this 8.1L Workhorse... But that's me.
  • That seems like a fair price, there's a diesel model for sale over in Bozeman, MT if you want diesel power. Coach House is a well-made Class C, check for care and upkeep of the unit by looking at the screens for the overhead air vents, opening and closing of bathroom door, tires, etc. Gas power comes out about the same operating cost since gasoline is cheaper and easier to find at any station. PM me if you need to.
  • Gas will be fine-that model doesn't need diesel and may not be available. One like it just sold at PPL Motorhomes for $45k
