Example would 8 people sitting around a campfire 10:05 pm talking in normal tone.
Is that a violation?

Curious what the thoughts are,

Is the mother inside her tent reading a story to a small person in a tone the same as above. A violation,

On a serious note where do you hang your hat on the issue

Thanks. Great group

I cannot talk quietly nor can I hear quiet talkers. So when 10:00 pm comes around I retire inside my coach, close it up and watch TV with ear phones or go to bed. What do I need to say after 10:00 pm that I could not have said all day long. It just takes common sense to be a good neighbor.

And are they trying to talk over a radio or other music? Have seen that A LOT and that is ridiculous ANY TIME in a campground near others, but especially after quiet time.

Most of the time the campers do not realize it is loud and quiet down.

To me, this is a reasonable policy. As a camper, I try to remember that other campers have as much right to enjoy their trip as I have to enjoy mine. If someone having a simple conversation late at night is bothering me so much, my first thought is "why am I being so sensitive?". More often than not, it is because my mood is less than perfect at that moment. In those cases, I put on my adult panties and accept that the problem is with ME not them.
Well stated. If your site is so close to the next that you can clearly hear the people next to you talking, and it bothers you, then you need to do better research when selecting a CG to stay in.

The OP asked: Example would 8 people sitting around a campfire 10:05 pm talking in normal tone. Is that a violation?

and

Is the mother inside her tent reading a story to a small person in a tone the same as above. A violation?

The simple answer to both is No.

Ultimately, that's for the park, and not us users, to decide. What we feel is quiet time can, and probably will, be vastly different than them.

I've heard of parks where, at quiet time, someone goes riding around with water and will put your fire out if it isn't out and get your butt inside. I've also been to parks where we hung out with a few others around the fire just chit chatting well past 11pm although quiet time started at 10pm, with no problems. So, there is no one-size-fits-all answer.

Quiet Time in a private campground is whatever the owner says it is. We had a group stay at unfriendly Acres in NJ and were Banished for Life for talking around the campfire at 11pm. The Seasonal Customer who owned a Permanent Trailer Home that the Campground builds and sells was able to party till 3am with drinking and Loud Music.

They actually sent us all Letters stating Banishment for Life. Gave us all a good Laugh.

Ten minutes before quiet time, you will extinguish your fire, and secure any loose objects that may rattle if the wind comes up. Five minutes before quiet time, you will turn off any sources of light that may project beyond your site. At quiet time, you will be in your rack lying silently at the position of attention. You will maintain this attitude until daybreak or such time as quiet time restrictions are lifted by competent authority.
Any violation of above policy may result in disciplinary action, up to and including removal and permanent banishment from the park!

I camped in a Tx state park in March when the weather was much COOLER. No one was around for a long distance. I did hear some very loud campers in the distance and wished I could have joined them. Loved seeing their fire from my distance. I know they were having a good time and were happy. But it didn't bother me. However right next door with a zero property line that does matter. And those camping in tents brought back some nice memories. My area in S Texas is packed right now. Let them have their fun and memories to share later.

I think people who don't camp a lot often don't realise how far sound carries when there are not solid, insulated, wood or brick walls around them. Altitude, or alcohol, make this worse.

You have that correct (alcohol). And that's why I don't let my brother in law go camping with me (a solo driver). He tends to get carried away in his jovial mode late at night. Now at home outside late at night its a different story, since it doesn't happen very often.

Noise sure does carry at night though.

Quiet time. Sitting around a fire talking OK.
Radios, drunken singing, electric guitars, drums, generators, scare lights. NOT OK.

Dogs barking?? Well that is not OK anytime. And most CGs have rules against it.

In my opinion the examples listed in the OP would be permitted after the start of quiet time.

Quiet time is that time after which generators must be turned off.
