Added a propane quick adapter - grill won't stay lit

Yep. Double regulated is bad. You can get gas fittings to adapt the stove to connect directly to the regulated supply. They ain't cheap! But it is worth it. We have both a grill and an oven that we hook up to the regulated supply. It's the way to go.

Remove the reg. and replace with a quick disconnect fitting.
I did the same with all my appliances.

So either I need to put a T at the tank or carry another tank around. Sounds like it might not be easy to modify the grill, other search show this isn't easy.

Actually, very easy but only if you have a grill with a separate regulator and flame control valve. Some do, some don't. If your grill has the two combined, then a "tee" in the high pressure line before the camper regulator is necessary.

Try just removing all the regulators. I found that they were all attached with common pipe fittings and it was cheap and easy to adapt the male QD fittings to them.
Then I added a remale QD fitting to one of the regulators I took off and I can use that to run any appliance off a bulk cylinder.

I am assuming that your Coleman grill has the same connections as my Weber grill. If not, you may need to modify these a little.

Replace the regulator on the grill with this ($15):

Propane Quick Connect with 1/8" FNPT



Remove the regulator from the grill leaving a 1/8" MNPT showing (this is where your Coleman may differ). Screw the 1/8" FNPT on it with YELLOW PTFE tape. Done.

Yellow PTFE tape is certified for propane.

This propane hose lets you hook the modified grill up to any propane bottle (except the little 1 pound ones). The best of both worlds.

And if you want to use your new regulated gas port, replace the regulator in the above picture with the quick connect fitting in the other picture. If you hooked up your new line properly, it should end in the close-able female quick connect fitting.
