I am trying to connect a new city water flange in my motor home.I disconnected the old one, fed the new one in and tightened up the water line to it and it leaks at the connection. I wrapped some white silicon tape on the brass thread and screwed the fiberglass/plastic nut onto the threads. Even though I think it is tightened enough,it leaks at the connection point. Is there supposed to be a washer inside the nut to help make the seal? I'm a little nervous about over tightening the plastic nut to brass. Any ideas will be appreciated.

yes. should be teflon not silicone. Regular hose washer is too big for the nut. So can I assume the obvious that 1) it does need a washer and 2)that I just need to find a smaller diameter washer?

No Teflon tape on garden hose connectors .You need rubber gasket between male connector and flange inside female connector. Sealing thread will let the water go between the nut and the flange.

A standard hose washer will fit in there. If your asking about the other side, inside the RV where the fitting screws to the PEX tubing, Thats another story.

^^^ This the correct washer. Should have come with the swivel fitting (that's the correct term). The city water inlet will have a standard 1/2" IPS thread that the swivel fitting threads onto. The photo below is a right angle swivel fitting and you can see the washer inside. The washer and swivel fitting should be available at most plumbing supply places.

If it's like the one that I had a part a few days ago, check valve with outside flange and garden hose connector, to inside water line, there's a rubber farrow like in it.

joebedford,it's not the hose side of the flange it is the brass threaded male part that connects to the inside water line. There is a female threaded plastic nut on the RVs interior water line that screws into the flange. That's what leaks NOT the drinking water hose side of the flange.

Think Kayteg1 understands my question. It is not the drinking water hose connection that I am referring to. It is the male brass connection to the female plastic/fiberglass/pex nut that leaks. A standard hose washer is too big for the nut so I am off to a hardware store for a slightly smaller washer or rubber gasket.
Is there a difference between a washer and a gasket for stopping the leak?

Are you talking about the nut that the white hose screws to? A standard hose washer will fit in there. If your asking about the other side, inside the RV where the fitting screws to the PEX tubing, Thats another story.
