Dometic Refrigerator Won't cool after coils blocked

Noticed lack of cooling in a Dometic Refrigerator on both electric or propane. Pulled top vent cover on roof off and noticed fiberglass insulation from both side had come loose and blocked coils b 90%. Moved insulation back out of the way and figured that would solve the problem. It did not. In fact now there is no cooling at all. The "boiler"is hot to touch when on electric and LP with a confirmed flame.
Is there such thing as over heat damage and would shutting it off for a few hours / days re-establish an ëquillibriam with the ammonia and hydrogen refrigerant.
  • Turn it off for 24 hours to let it cool down. Restart and run for 24 hours. IF it does not cool correctly you have a "cooked" cooling unit. You will have to replace the cooling unit. Depending on how long it ran with blocked ventilation will determine if you severely damaged the cooling unit. Doug
  • You can tun it upside down, roll it around in the parking lot, vibrate the coils or any other attempt.......but it won't do a thing except give you some exercise.

Once the plague/build up occurs it is permanent.

New cooling unit, new absorption fridge OR 5vr permanently set up in a park---new residential fridge
  • Frig is 5 years old. The 5th wheel was always set up in a park and always level.
The insulation could have been covering the coils since day one and the insulation showed signs of heat damage. So a build up crystals is highly likely. The 120 volt element has power and continuity and when on gas I can see a flame. Looks like a new fridge or at least a new cooling unit is in order. They used to say to turn the unit upside for a week, but I'm not sure that was for this type of damage.
  • Overheating causes permanent damage..........and is accumulative.

The sodium chromate (anti-rust inhibitor) in the coolant solution crystallizes when overheated, attaches to inside of tubes and builds up like a plague.
It is permanent..will not go back into solution once formed.

How long has fridge been running now that you have corrected the air flow obstruction........???

    Fridge is level....correct?
Off level operation can disrupt proper gravity flow of coolant which will result in overheating issues also

Takes several hours for fridge to properly cool.
Freezer section cools down first then food section can begin to cool off.
  • Hard to say, how long has it been on?...I would give it a full day to see if it makes any difference.
Might set up a fan to blow over the coils and up the chimney to help
