Fantastic fan sticking closed

The cover on our Fantastic fan sticks closed. It starts to cycle when I turn it on, runs for a moment, the cover won't go up and it shuts off. If I reach up and manually operate it, the cover will stick, then pop open and it works. Been on the roof and wiped down the gasket surface. Maybe I should spray some silicon on the gasket??

  • You need to put some 303 lube on the rubber gasket that the lid closes on.
This is what Fantastic Fan sent me when I complained about mine sticking.
  • X2 on the 303. Same problem on mine years ago. Called them and they said they would send me something to clean and condition the seal. It was 303. Never a problem afterward.
  • I use silicone spray on all my seals. Don't let it drift down on the floor or it will be slippery.
  • I use baby powder in a sock then dust the seals.....vent fans & slide outs

    That is for sure. ;)
Plus I don't want to get silicone on to the roof membrane. I spray silicone on to a cloth and then wipe it on the seals.
  • A bit of vegetable oil on your finger then rubbed on the seal works.
  • I just bought a spray bottle of 303. Looks like I can use it for other things too. Boy! That stuff isn't cheap...

  • With cover closed and fan off position,Pull the knob down and adjust til it is closed snugly but not too tight and push the knob back up.
use a very little talc powder on the seal. The motor will tighten the cover way down, if that is where it is adjusted to.
Also had the operating arm held by one screw at each end pull out from over tightening.
Plastic and heat from sun etc against rubber seal will stick, but usually it is the motor over snugging the cover down, causing it to stick, usually after someone has operated it manually, for some reason.

Made ours Manual. It was always doing something I didn't want it doing. I think the fan itself would have been OK as long as the House Battery was left ON. But when it'd been Off and I turned it back On, the lid lift motor would try to run. Unplugged a Motor Wire and added shim to Knob Shaft so it can't engage the motor gears. We get along great now.
