Might As Well Order Upgrade Caps For The WFCO Converter

Anyone have recommendations for replacement electrolytic caps?

Part numbers? Quantities needed?

Sources?

Jameco?

All Electronics?

Any complaints about steady state 13.2 float voltage issues?

Not worried about the charging part. The sucker is coming to Dracula's Castle...
  • 13.2 volts is the normal float mode setting. The WFCO doesn't have an equalize mode as it is just 3 stage.
And after reading the other thread, I see you are talking about the WFCO being reluctant to go to boost mode issue.
  • Ah yes, but it's going to have the MEGA WATT "stage" just as soon as I bite it on the neck.

Refer to the WFCO thread down the line a piece.

The WFCO will work out just fine for what it's intended use is for.

If a second one shows up it'll go to work in the dungeon. At the moment backups are based on 24 volt battery, chargers, inverter and battery bank. Keeping track we have lost power seventeen hours and twenty three minutes Since midnight Fri/Sat. I need an infallible UPS for the BiPAP don't ask what it does with a Trace 4024. Uncle Fester would love it. I'll put it this way because of the cost of heat sinks, I decided to go with 10 volt 10 watt LED's rather than the 36 volt 30's. That way I can haul the battery, and MegaWatt with me when I decide to hightail it into the mountains or up and down the coast in the toad. Gasoline is 4 dollars a gallon here now, and RV park owners are firmly convinced a pad is worth more than a hotel room.

I wonder if anyone else wakes up with a shut off BiPAP? My BP soars. Like 215/111, my heart goes into arrhythmia and I do not feel so hot. Takes a day or so in bed to iron out the wrinkles. Configuring a UPS will save my bacon. I want to stay active at the work table playing with 555's optocouplers, MOSFETS, LED's. Save the 24's for the three big Torrey Freezers and my Viking. They are all loaded with Jesus' lobster. When they are running it's around a thousand watts total.

  • Even without knowing the values, I'd purchase Panasonic's for everything electrolytic and I'd get them at Digikey.

If you call the customer service number, it's possible to tailor your shipping needs. Since I sometimes only need one or two small components to complete a project, I can ask for First Class Postage instead of carrier shipping. It keeps the shipping costs down.

Since I live within 300 miles of the distribution center, parts ordered on Mon. arrive to me via post by Weds.. I'm clueless about International shipping.

I'd say I have no connection to Digikey but am going over to a VP's Mothers, manana, to install some doors. Wonder if I can wrangle a discount, lol?
  • Panasonic. Hecho en Japon

    Thirty dollars in parts

One hundred twenty dollars in import duty

    Then sixteen percent tax

Did I mention the hundred thirteen dollar FedEx Fee?

Or the several hundred miles round trip to the FedEx office?

Celso would have to bring them when he returns, but THANK YOU! For the DigiKey lead and brand name.
  • X2 with what westend said
    Both Panasonic and Digikey

Panasonic is IMO the best you can get - when they go bad it's time to replace which is typically 25 to 30 years of service. Still going strong in my 1972 Pioneer power amp - all Panasonic caps

Could use a bit more info
If you supply a model # of the WFCO
I would be happy to check what values you will need
Suggest the Panasonic FR Series (sorry just checked they only go to 63Vdc, you will need 250 or 450 depending on the model, several other series will work) w/ 105C rating

Now if you decide it's too expensive we could always divert the shipment of the WFCO north to Montana :)-

Typically the larger 250Vdc / 450Vdc 2200ufd caps run $1.35 or so each with $2.50 in shipping (Domestic USA shipping)

First time dry camping I used a 12v jump start battery with an inverter for my BiPap. It was fine the first night, but couldn't get a full charge at the Ranger station after that and I would wake at 4:00 feeling like I was suffocating. Found out that mine could run on direct 12v with the optional cord. Also found out about solar, dual 6v, 35AH Deep Cycle batteries, etc. The next dry camping will be better.
  • When we have to replace caps in a PC, we go up the highest voltage rating we can get that will fit into the location the bad cap came from without touching any other component.

Any cap that has a puffed up top should be replaced, but we just replace all of them, because they are going to go sooner or later.

We buy caps from a local parts store and/or MCM Electronics, online.

Heat kills the caps, so more cool air movement the better.
  • Dang it! I forgot small muffin fans!

On 1 September with a fresh Social Security recharge, I am going to telephone Digikey. I wish I had an accurate cap count for the WFCO. I am fighting with this laptop trying to open some digital images of a schematic that a kind forum participant sent. The problem is me, not the operating system. I can trust my Son in law in case for some reason I am no longer around. So I want the system to last a long time if possible.

Four years. I have been waiting for SCT to mount a street light on the power pole next to Mex 200 to shine on the marked crosswalk. I now have a donated unworking 70 watt sodium six foot long cobra head -aluminum- street light fixture. The ballast is toast. In will go four 30 watt LED chips. White. My grand daughters and indeed everyone dashes across the pitch black highway and idiot drivers pass the crosswalk driving drunk at 70 mph. When I get it modified for AC power up it goes, for free by CFE the federal power commission. The electricity is free. I have an extra light sensor module. The village already has it's quota of three highway speed bumps and not a one is anywhere near the crosswalk.

This stuff keeps me young. I do take siestas though.
  • Sorry I guess you missed the message from BurbMan
    Check out the WFCO thread
Sounds as if you will be looking for a different unit

Again no model # results in no part number and sometimes the serial number is required for the proper parts - you should know better than most - we can only guess without a model #

As an example the WFCO 9855 uses two 820ufd @200Vdc while the 8955 uses 2,200ufd caps at either 250 or 450Vdc
