The one lb canister gives you the flexibility to use the stove at the table in your campsite instead of being tethered to the RV by a hose. If cost is an issue the canisters can be refilled from a larger tank. I had this same issue with my Buddy heater being attached to the main tank via a hose, but my wife liked it in the bathroom when showering and getting dressed and then in the living area afterwards I did not want to have a 20 ft hose.
