I pump treated colorado stream water to a shower holding tank when boon docking and had lift problems with the little giant 110v 1/10 HP pump I have and would like to replace it.Would my eu2000i power the Wayne PLS100 Utility/Sprinkler pump? It says it draws 8.5 amps, but I cant find startup amps. The answer is "maybe". I know one Honda 2000 will not run my air compressor requiring 1300 watts. Electric motors on items like compressors and water pumps take a lot of surge wattage to get the motors started. Honda invertor style generators don't handle surge wattage well at all, though they can handle the operating wattage.In talking to Honda and the compressor mfg, they doubted even two Honda 2000s could start my compressor.Having said that, I think one Honda 2000 will handle the surge starting wattage of your 900W pump, but you won't know until you try.Bill

8.5 is max amperage draw. Converts to 1020 watts. In run mod it is 745 watts.EU200I should run it without any problems. Issue would be other connected load to genset while operating the pump.

I ran a 1/3 HP sump pump with a Honda 2000 when I had it. (might be 1/2 hp but the label is off)The 1000 I had would not run it.1/10 hp should be easy. 1 hp probably not due to start up surge.What is the lift, pressure and volume you need?

Not answering your question, but I have a real nice little Honda water pump that pumps great. Tiny little thing, 1/4 the size of the eu2000. Not sure if cost though

Starting watts are 3 times running watts (probably a capicitor start motor. I think your 200 will start it (no load) maybe.

That sounds interesting.. I'm also interested in gravity fed water instead of using my noisy rv water pump because I could elevate my tank, but I wondered how high and if it would be enough pressure to shower. I imagine with only .43 psi per foot, I would need 10' higher just to get 5 psi and then regular rv 1/2" water piping would greatly limit the gpm.

Thanks for the foot work on that Flotec model FP4012 time2roll! I will consider it.

My question on amazon about the wayne pump was sort of answered..

"Our units are tested for ac requirement usage only - the running amps on the PLS100 is9 running - start ranges 3 to 5 times the running. Regards, Bob"

Consider a shallow well jet pump. Flotec model FP4012 can draw water up 25' and the maximum head is 179'.

There is a priming process as this is not a submersible. May need a foot valve on the inlet. Just 1/2 hp should run from a Honda 2000 but I don't have one or know for certain.

Yikes. The killer is the capacity? We fill 55 gallon plastic drums then when we take them home they are re-pumped into 800 gallon tanks on our roof. The foot valve has a screen. The 1" bung is set 1-1/2" from the bottom to allow debris to sump. I checked out the Jacuzzi brand and they make some efficient pumps but the price makes them less than attractive.

Your absolutely right mexicowanderer. It would be so much easier up and down the hill and safer by the edge of the water. Less gpm though..

It's not so much the money but more of not owning another internal combustion engine while being able to dual purpose the electric.

Chris Bryant has an excellent bit of advice. The small one-handlebar Honda pump is a real powerhouse provided the maximum lift ability isn't approached. The little guy simply knocks the socks off a third horsepower DC pump. That pump has 30' of 6/2 cable and is used to fill tanks from the rio Chuta when the village well decides to sleep-in. It pushes water uphill about 20' from the 6' long intake hose and foot valve.

many of these small motors are split phase motors and no starting cap. The result is very low starting torque and very high current draw till they come up to speed. It is agrivated if they must start under load.

any electric motor looks almost like a short circuit until the rotor starts to turn and create a back emf which then makes the motor look like a load with more impedance.

and a honda generator can't deliver more than 15A or so for more than a few seconds at best.

I asked this same question on amazon questions about the Wayne PLS100.. I have yet to get a answer and don't think I want to be the guinea pig.

No, that is not normal for standard start ups. Capacitor start are a different matter. Those normally start under heavy load like larger air compressors and AC units.

3 times, is that a general rule of thumb for electric motors ?

Water pump have a relatively low starting load.
