2008 ford?

I have nearly the same truck (F350 Dually, Lariat) only the 6.8 V10.

The 6.4L engine was Ford's replacement for the (very) troubled 6.0L engine, while it had it's own issues, there were less of them then the 6.0L
You can see the 6.4L engine issues in that it was replaced already, while the 6.8L is still being produced, in two versions. The 2valve 6.8L is effectively unchanged since 2001.

Personally, if the price was right, I'd get the truck

If the 6.4 diesel they are thirsty. Check the build date, there are 3 versions of the 08 and the early (job1) trucks had some issues. Take the VIN number to Ford dealer and get the update/service history.

As stated the 6.4 diesel are thirsty plus they have radiator problems. With 29k on it check to see if the radiator has been changed. Go over here and do some reading and maybe join then you can ask the guys that have one.

There are other problems, but you get the point.

Get an oasis report from dealer. Radiators are problematic. I have a 2008 6.4L. Changed one leaking hose. No other problems in 59,000 miles.
Check for mods.

Ours has 90K on it and we are still on the first radiator. Probably 65K of that was towing something. So far, so good.

I have a 08 F450 w 4:88 gears with 87K on the clock pulling a 38' Mobile Suites, so far 1 radiator, 2 sensors (warranty) plus 1 HPFP $$. Just completed a 2500 mi trip thru Utah's national parks, starting and ending in SoCal and hand calc. mileage of 7.9974 which is not bad for that kind of weight.

For those posting about radiator problems: It is not the radiator at fault. The isolation mounts between the cab chassis were failing resulting in twisting that damaged the radiator. Radiator failure was a symptom of the mounts.

I have the 08 F350 dually Lariat 6.4. I don't find the diesel over thirsty. I haven't been out west but I have been from Maine to Florida. I get 10 MPG towing the rig in my sig. and 19 mpg without the trailer on the hiway. I had the coolant flush at 30000 and I change the oil every 6000 and the fuel filters every other oil change. I get compliments everywhere I go. Runs nice and quiet for a diesel, if the price is right go for it.

Huh a 08 with only 29k miles. Must be a reason for that low of mileage :W
I'd keep shopping OP unless it's a fire sale price. Lots of 2011 6.7's starting to show up which is IMO a much better motor and platform.
