My husband and I are looking at purchasing a new 2014 Trail Runner SLT 22 SLE. The unit we have looked at locally has hail damage to the rear siding only, nothing structural or problematic, but LOTS of little dings all over it, still covered under warranty, etc. We are trying to figure out what is a fair price given the damage. We have found the same trailer, new but 2013, with no hail damage, halfway across the country for $12k. We're thinking, the local unit is local (which we would prefer), newer, and has enclosed underbelly BUT is damaged. The other unit is a 2013, no enclosed underbelly but also no damage.We're completely willing to drive to Chicago to get the other one, but we'd rather buy local. What would be a fair price? We were thinking the two come out the same given the damage so we'd like the 2014 for $12k. Thoughts?

The 2013 has an 'asking' price of $12,000 - start low ($8000)....you can always go up!

Keep in mind if the "new" one has hail damage it may very well come with a salvage title as the dealer may have collected his insurance on it. It will also be hard to get any insurance coverage on it. A good dealer would simply re-skin the unit to repair the damage as very few people will be in the market for anything like that unless it sells for about 1/4 the new unit price. Shop the internet and I'll bet you can find lots of them in perfect condition..There are several brands that sell very similar products. Don't get stuck on one particular unit.B.O.

did you look at the roof? resale will be hard. nobody wants a rv thats not pretty.

No salvage title, just a lower price due to the hail damage. A salvage title would be if it were totaled and then repaired.

Yes, make sure to look at the roof. I've owned a trailer with hail damage to the AC cover and the exposed fabric on the top of the rolled up awning. You would not have known it from the ground.

I bought a used trailer with hail damage - the guy arrived at the asking price by taking the low Blue Book (other than the hail damage, the trailer was in GREAT shape) and deducting the $3,000 he got from insurance. He dropped the price another $1,000 as he had not turned the awning (also hail damaged) in to insurance. So, I got a trailer with a Blue Book of $8500 for $4500 and have not regretted it for a second.

I traded my 2008 Jay Flight 19BH with hail damage on all 4 sides. Only cosmetic and dealer sold it in a week. I'd find out what the damage will cost to fix and offer 1/2 that below a price you'd offer on a new one. Actually offer below that but don't go above.

Hail damage is usually so minor and affects nothing but cosmetically, it's just stupid to repair it as it's so expensive.

It's your decision but I wouldn't discount my trailer the repair price, as it's really not needed and just for looks. I traded up to a 26BH since insurance gave me a good check.

Thanks all for the help! The dealer was trying to have us think we were being unreasonable, sounds like we weren't at all. Will definitely have a look at the roof and double check on the title. Everyone's closed today but we'll be calling in the morning to let them know we're holding firm on our offer or taking a road trip to Chicago for the other one!

The problem is resale,if minor damage probably just use it and go.How much are you willing to reduce the price when you sell or heaven forbid trade in the future.
