Anybody have a Lance 975 on a RAM 3500?

Good Morning!
Looking for overall reviews, thought's and even opinions of a 975 on a truck like mine. 2006 RAM 3500 4x4 dually Cummins and a six speed. Oh, and its red.
I have a 2003 915 lite on there now. It's got some rot that needs repaired and some other to be expected issues. Thinking about the 975 for a little extra space and some of the new doo dads and gizmo's. Will be doing a lot more long trips to almost fulltiming with the wife pretty soon.
What I dont want to give up is my ability to get off road!
So wondering how the ol truck will handle an extra thousand plus pounds on forest and BLM roads, creek crossings, etc.....

THANKS!
  • I had problems with that power distribution controller thingy also. When I had my TC on and then hooked up my trailer it drew just a wee bit to much power and tripped the stupid thing. Had to take it to the Dodge Stealer for a reset and they flashed an update to allow more of a power draw.
So I installed one of those tail light wiring converters with it's own power source and fuses. Wired it into the factory 7 pin connector. Bypass the horrible Dodge design for the trailer light and no problems for the past eight years. Why they would install such a system on a vehicle clearly built to tow is beyond me.

I had one of those same year with 6 speed manual.
that was first year for DB owned them and they switched to the new trans. They had a strange final OD drive ratio. With 3:73's I used to tach 2150 rpm at 65mph, but man I could tow a house with that truck. In 2007 they changed OD so the RPM dropped in 6th.

Sold to my brother who hooked to a trailer that had bad wiring. took out the Power Distribution Module since the trailer wiring don't have fuses. $1000.00 out the door to fix it.
sorry I can't help you with your original question, but "nice truck". I miss the 25mph running empty on highway at 65mph.
  • We don't always stay on the road and I'm pretty careful not to hit anything. It's my wife's truck, after all.

I did drive the truck onto a dock in Canada recently. It was a pretty tight squeeze.
  • I'm surprised you have the rear fenders intact. Around here, the access roads are so narrow and debris laden (logs and boulders that no dual rear wheel pickup can make it without serious damage. Experience the same topography in the cheese state too.
  • We have a 2014 992 on a 2014 Ram diesel DRW with a cummins engine, so it's pretty close.

The previous owner put spacers in the springs and the truck drives very smoothly with the camper on it. We have done quite a bit of backroad camping with no issues. We've even gone into the back country areas of Big Bend where only 4WD vehicles are allowed. We went very slowly but made it there.

We've been up mountain roads too.

We love the truck and the camper.
