Carry Livin LIte 8.6 on 3500 SRW with no mods??

Hi All:
I have a 2014 Ram Laramie 3500 SRW, crew cab, 4x4, diesel. It has a gross payload of 4,200 pounds I believe.

I am looking to purchase a used Livin' Lite 8.6.

Does anyone have experience with this combination? Can I haul it without any suspension mods? I do have a set of Timbrens, but they make the ride harsh when the truck is empty (they are currently removed). I have searched quite a bit, and can not find any postings here or anywhere of anyone with this setup.

Thanks!!
Chad
  • I carried a 4000# S&S on a '05 CTD 3500 with no mods. Your Timbrens are not installed correctly. They should not come in to play until the truck squats down under load. Best advice I can give is load the TC and try it to see if you need any additional support. No sense buying something you don't need.
  • I'm about where you are looking to be. Ram 3500 SRW with payload of 4018#. From memory I think I weighed with a full tank of water and lightly loaded about 3400#. I will probably end up 3500-3700. I've only used it twice: bringing it home from Maryland and a fishing trip to Oklahoma. (New grandbaby stalled our travelling.) I had no issues and nothing scary. But it did rock a bit getting into and out of sloped driveways and camp sites. I didn't have much if any problem with wind or 18 wheelers passing. I did study and read as much as possible about mods to the rear suspension. Lots of help on this forum by the way. I decided to get a Hellwig BigWig. Actually arrives tomorrow from Amazon. I did discover the Roadmaster sway bar won't fit my Ram with factory 5th wheel prep.
  • Thanks to all for your helpful responses.

That is the kind of actual experience of was / am seeking.
  • Just noticed your hometown. We were around there in May. Looking around in Bowery Cemetery near Memphis for wife's ancestors. Found 'em, then on to Indy 500.
