I have used Loctite PL-Premiun construction adhesive and the stuff is amazing. I used some when I replaced a sheet metal shield under my motorhome. It had about a 1" x 8" lip on it that fastened to the sub-floor. Recently I had to remove it. I could not get it off. I had to heat it up with a torch to soften up the adhesive. It typically is packaged in a caulking tube, but I have seen it in a small squeeze tube. Of course the small tube costs almost as much as the large caulking tube.

PL premium is a great general purpose adhesive. There is also a complete line of PL products for specific applications, the LePage web site has the complete list.

I always keep a tube of PL Premium on hand, as well as a tube of Big Stretch and a lap seatant in the rig just in case. Big Stretch is a neat product, good for filling wide gaps, yey remaining flexable. Like the name says it stretches and allows the joint to flex.

I used liquid nails to hold closet rod holders (along with a screw). Twenty thousand miles of rural America roads later (and way too many clothes hanging from them) and they're still holding strong! Just get it right the first time (before the adhesive dries)!

I hung a 1'x5' mirror on the bathroom door with some mirror adhesive I bought at Home Depot. It's been there for over a month now and I'm guessing it's not coming down. I would think something along the lines of the panel adhesive your talking about or even 'liquid nail' type adhesive would work also. Just read the label for compatibility.

As far as stud spacing goes, on interior walls you can just push on the wall and feel it push in until you hit a stud then it feels solid. Exterior walls are harder to find studs. You can't use molly bolts because of the sandwich design. If I were hanging shelving on an interior wall in a closet I would use liquid nail adhesive along with some short screws to help hold till the liquid nail sets up. Like mentioned before using a larger piece of wood as a backer is also a good idea. Not sure what type of shelving you're actually installing. Some pics or a link would help in determining what kind of fastening system would work best.

Walls are only 1.5" thick...be careful of wires!

And the studs are sure as hell not on 16" centers in an RV! More like "oh, need one here"! :B

We bought our 2006 Trail-vision with all intentions of keeping it forever, so I don't worry about messing up a little here and there. I'm pretty handy at mods and do some pretty good work, but I learn as I go. Just give plenty of thought to what you are doing before you do it and move slowly. You'll have fun and learn in the process. A cheap 'stud finder' was essential for me.

When I put shelving in cabinets, I just used the plastic, plug in shelf clips. They were plenty strong, even just held by the thin paneling. They don't get a lot of weight on them...maybe 10 lbs. I'm getting ready to replace several 'stick on' type hooks with brass screw in type. The stick on type turns loose in really hot weather, pot holders/pics, etc., fall to the floor. Just make sure you don't try to hang something too heavy for the screws to hold.

You're showing an interest in tackling this stuff, so I'm quite sure you will figure it out!

The biggest issue is studs are not like those in a house. They are much smaller so make sure your screws are short enough that you dont screw through the exterior. If in doubt go to your door and hold the screw up to make sure its no longer than the width of the door jamb
