The most dangerous varmints are two legged and they are everywhere.
Out in the woods with wild animals is the safest place you can be. - bobndotExplorer IISome food for thought :
Keep in mind that bullets , sprays and hammers only sometimes work. Their limitations are seen when adrenaline flows, mental illness or drugs are present in so many offenders.
WASP spray is an alternative (inexpensive and carried legally) also works pretty well.
It sprays in a narrow stream with enough pressure to reach a 10-15 ft range.
( The average untrained person is probably better protected if you paint some red dots on your face and wear a sign that states you have a contagious air born deadly virus. :E )
Be professional because this is serious and get the you jammed up.
Carrying guns for protection in crowded public places.
If you decide to legally carry, please learn about what correct ammo to use that offers 'hydrostatic shock' (ammo that spreads out) to internal organs to stop a threat without passing through a subject, then passing through 3 more innocent people.
Also think about taking weapon retention training to keep your weapon secure and invest in good leather that is designed to deter someone from disarming you.
FYI: re guns
AFAIK, the NRA, for members, has a supplemental policy that offers 'paid for' legal services if/when the lawsuits fly in your direction.
Even in a good shooting where you think you were justified, there are so many loopholes in the laws regarding the use of firearms and deadly physical force laws that can work against you. It took many years to re-write the HR 218 LEOSA act to get it right.
weapons in RV's : some info that Mark touches upon that some might not have thought about.
The 4th A and RV's - Dennis12ExplorerHow is it going to help you locked up. I carry mine at all times and all states. Been questioned twice about it and left go. That is my second amendment and I will take it to the highest court. Most troopers will agree if you don't make an ass or yourself when they stop you. About the bear spray, I've haven't had any trouble with a real bear.

Bear spray is a better alternative.
Your odds are much better at blasting a charging bear in the face with bear spray than to try and shoot him in the face. - drsteveExplorer

Make some noise, and wild animals generally run away. The danger of getting attacked by a bear is greatly exaggerated. - macastle01ExplorerI want to thank everyone for the info on firearms..i suppose the best thing to do is leave it at home I was just thinking about camping in the mountains this summer and coming across a wild animal(bear, etc.)

Just DO NOT try it in Canada!
He did not ask about Canada. - FishhunterExplorerKeep mine in center console locked, cocked, and ready to rock no matter what State I'm in. At night its beside my bed. I wont be a statistic for some knucklehead. I dont speed, roll thru stop signs and obey all traffic laws so getting stopped is pretty minisculed
If I ever do thats the first thing I would tell the officer before he runs my licsence. I do have a CCW good in 39 States. - AtleeExplorer IIFor those who carry, it's probably the same reasoning I use to have 4x4 trucks.
It's better to have it, and not need it, than to need it and not have it.BurbMan wrote:
Just curious, for folks that carry along a firearm when traveling, how many have needed to use it or even just show it for self defense? - Desert_CaptainExplorer III

Twice in the last 10 years. Had to display it once and discharge it on one other occasion. In both instances not having that option could, likely would, have left us extremely vulnerable. I will not let strangers make life and death decisions for me.
