Block heaters have been standard on all Canadian CTD's for years and a cover came with my 2011 3500. Still in the box.

Never seen a vehicle that has had such an emotional reaction as the ED on this forum. It's either a huge game changer or Satan's own invention, threatening our very way of life. Depending on who you listen to.

My 2005 F250 PSD did not come with a cover even though I had this package. The heater was optional with no additional option for an OEM cover.

LOL...I would be more impressed with the Chrysler Corp. if the NHTSA wouldn't have to be so involved to motivate FCA to do the right things.

I'm sorry but the massive recalls have left a permanent black eye and how they're being handled can only offend the Chrysler customers.

OK I just hung up the phone with FCA recall center and was told the letters were to be mailed out on 11/13/2015 with the cover to all owners that meet the sales code requirements.

In other words you must have the 3.0 diesel engine sales code EXF AND the sales code NHK to receive the cover in the mail. This does not mean if you do not meet the NHK code requirement that you will not get a free cover. It means that the cover was not shipped out on the Nov. 13th date.

I asked him if he could clarify with FCA, whether or not owners without the sales code NHK can still receive a free cover or not. He sent a clarification request to the appropriate people and he will send me an e-mail letting me know what he found out.

When I get it I will post the information. Have to say I'm perrty impressed that Ram is stepping up and doing this. :C

Cheap to buy and best to use as to WF and block heater.

I use a grille block made of polycarbonate for the fall and spring once past A/C weather (running solo). Still plenty of airflow to heat exchangers, but temps come up faster and stay up even on highway.

I use the MOPAR WF on my Dodge in winter. Unquestionably worthwhile. The op manual on the Class 8 work truck I drive says the WF must come off at 41F degrees.

Use of the block heater year round is what I would do were I a commuter. 90-minutes gives 90% of benefit.

"Winter fuel" blend is only 5% less energetic. Use of a WF and block heater is good for fuel mileage and engine life. I'd add an oil pan heater.

Well at least Ram is stepping up and giving you a cover. Does GM automatically include the cover or does it only come in an option package. The 2016 Rams can no be ordered with a "Cold Weather Group" that includes the block cord and cover. Not sure if the truck is shipped to certain areas if it is standard or if you still need to order the group.

GM has included a cold weather cover for diesel duramax's since at least 2004. My 04 and 2015 both came with one. It is std on vehicles shipped to certain regions, and a no cost option otherwise.

That said, even in temps well below 0F, I've never had an occasion to use it.

That is a bit of an uneducated reply. My 3500 RAM diesel has a cold weather option that includes a front cover and (on edit: Block Heater Cord). Some diesel trucks have shutters in front of the radiator, and many over the road trucks use winter covers on the front.

I'm still amazed at the engineers incredible abilty to come up with a cheap fix for design errors. In early 84 when GM put out a cadillac that leaked antifreeze into the engine oil their modification was a can of radiator stop leak. :B
