I have a 2008 Northern Lite camper. It has a Heki 2 rooflight (skylight, hatch, roof vent, whatever you want to call it) in the cab over area. I recently purchased this camper used and the previous owner told me that this skylight was damaged because a tree branch had come in contact with it. Anyway, the clear top cover has a crack and one of the white hinge areas is broken where the black vertical hinge attaches to the white part of the hinge at the very bottom. It looks like this white part is one continuous piece and is part of the plastic molded white portion on the whole lower vent frame, and not just an easily replaceable separate part (a very poor design if you ask me). I have tried to get separate replacement pieces but to no avail. Everyone I have spoken with says I have to purchase a whole new skylight assembly, for somewhere around $600 to $800±. Anyway, what I think might be a better approach is to just replace the whole thing with something else, a much less elaborate, less prone to damage, and less expensive type of vent. Does anyone know of any type of hatch / skylight / vent that would be a good replacement “for the existing hole cutout”? Or, does anyone know how I could re-size the existing cutout to make it able to fit something more common? Thanks in advance for your help with this.

You can purchase seperate parts directly from Dometic. I had the same problem with mine.

Our Heiki has been great so far...but IF we ever have to replace it, I would seriously consider a marine grade replacement.Cost would be similar, and I believe the marine hatch would be more robust.

When a tree branch came down on my RV my homeowners insurance paid me to repair and replace everything that was needed. It might be equally as expensive but you'll gain a better hatch . Maybe.... being that its a fiberglass camper, a marine body shop or an auto body shop that does fiberglass repairs would be a place to ask if a fiberglass cover could be made to replace the Heki vent . That way you cut any opening to fit any better quality marine grade hatch. You need an escape hatch in case of fire not a 14x14 fantastic type vent. ( unless you have a pushout emergency window ) I know that the cheaper style emergency hatches that Lance uses are less prone to breaking. There have been few instances with them and they are cheap to replace if need be. Its a screened emergency hatch that real people can fit through to gain access to the roof. I found this info. Also they will have to (most likely) bring them in from Europe so you are looking at 4 - 6 weeks. You can order then directly from the UK or Germany, combined price including shipping will probably be less than Dometic, those companies typically ship DHL and it is normal to receive them within a few days. Search on ebay.uk and ebay.de.And yes, the Heki is a very poorly designed piece of gear.It would not be hard on a NL or Bigfoot to close down the hole in the shell to the size required to use a more readily available hatch. It is after all just fiberglass and being on the roof it doesn't even need to look perfect. But you also have to trim out the inside, which will have a ragged hole in the headliner.

Before we go any further, just want to make sure that we are talking about the same thing. Can you give me the inside dimensions of your heki 2 ?

Is this the plastic tab that you are talking about?

If so, than you only need the upper section that is installed from the roof. The part that is installed from inside with roll in & out screen and shade I want to keep but you sure can have the upper roof part:C
It's strange that the plastic tab broke and not the flimsy black plastic handle. Every time I open or close this thing I can see the handle twist:R

Fastbrit: Sitting inside the cab over area and looking up, I measured the plastic area immediately above where the sliding screen is. The measurements are: side to side = 32 ¼ inches, front to back = 20 ¾ inches.

In the single photo you posted in your first post, the beige colored portion is the part that is installed on the exterior of the camper roof. There are also three black attached hinge pieces in this photo. Each of these three black hinge pieces has two tabs on their ends where a pin is installed through these tabs and the mating corresponding tabs on the beige colored portion. It is some of these corresponding tabs that are part of the beige colored portion that are broken on my unit, and possibly the black hinge piece(s) also. So, if you would send any parts you do not need, to specifically include the parts with the items shown in this first photo of your first post, I would be ever so grateful to you!
