Need help on pop up damage/repair

Need some advice on a camper I am looking to purchase. It's a 1998 or 99 (original owner but he couldn't remember). The inside is pristine, but one side has some pretty major cracks. I'm looking at this one in particular because I can make a trade for it and not spend cash. How difficult would it be to fix? I don't need to make it look new, just be watertight to prevent damage down the line. Any ideas what a fair price would be for it? I'm new to this so I would appreciate any help you can give. Thanks!

Sorry for the FB link, I didn't see a way to attach a photo to the post?

  • Just an observation, but is that fiberglass? It looks like waterproof
wall board. If fiberglass, couldn't it be replaced by a 1/4" sheet of bathroom/shower board cut to fit. A relatively inexpensive repair.

  • If everything is as you said, then the only thing that could cause the fiberglass to crack like that is fatigue. If that's true, then it's only a matter of time (think months not years) before the other 3 sides crack also. In my opinion, I wouldn't take it if they were giving it away. Only thing worth anything is the canvas if you find someone else that needs that exact canvas.

Yes, clean title. And everything else is immaculate. It's never had water in it, the screens and canvas are close to perfect. Interior is great too. They said it just happened while sitting at their house, and it had my been in an accident. The inside wall on the other side of this looks fine and doesn't look like it's been repaired.

Looks like someone hit it or the owner backed it into something.

I would take it to a local RV repair shop or even just an auto body shop to get an estimate.

By doing this you will find out IF it's repairable and 'HOW' they will repair it.

Then YOU will know how to do it and/or if it is repairable! :B:B

It's what I do when I need to know how to do something myself. It's getting free advice from a professional. And actually often I find out that they can do it faster and for less than I can!

I'm pretty handy, just not familiar with RV repairs. Do you have an idea of the value? It a 16' 1998 or 99 Dutchmen

IMHO with that damage - $0. Most folks will see that and walk away.
Does it have a clean title?

  • I'd be more concerned with why it happened. Fixing it may be possible, but first you need to identify the underlying problem. That's not "normal wear."
  • It all depends on how handy you are. If you are good with your hands, and have the tools, looks to be an easy fix....just need to remove the side, and either do a repair, or replace with some Laminate, and sheet of Filon glued on it....heck, might even be able to find a replacement on Ebay
  • When we were looking at myself doing major repairs to our Colemen Mesa, about 5K worth, our choice was to get rid of the pup and get a Trailmanor. A lot more spent then the repairs of course but we ended up with a better interior layout plus a hard sided folding camper.
We sold the pup for 1k.
