- mobilefleetExplorerI've restored dozens of trailers and done this lots of times. Tried everything over the years and the absolute best method I used was a wallpaper scraper from home depot. Made by husky and has a 4 inch blade and a long comfort handle. Choose a day over 60 degrees and park in the sun. No hairdryer needed. blade will slide right under decals and peel them off large chunks at a time without gouging. follow up after decal is removed by spraying decal area with carb cleaner and use the same tool to remove the adhesive. Trick is to spray it on and immediately scrape adhesive. You cant wait. Comes right off like gorilla snot. shake your tool to throw that junk off and keep going. Do not use carb cleaner on aluminum sided campers, it will remove paint.. be careful not to spray any painted areas like slide trim or window casings too. goo gone, wd40, 3m remover, etc. etc. all are way less effective than carb cleaner. tried and tested them all.
- scbwrExplorer IIA hair dryer and WD-40 has worked for me, along with a plastic putty knife.
However, I'm not sure why you would want to remove new decals unless you really find them to be ugly (which could well be the case with some units I've seen!). Why not just wait a few years, and try to protect them as much as possible as suggested above? - DrumExplorerI removed a couple of my decals that were getting brittle and peeling/flaking off. I used a heat gun which worked wonders, and then used 3M adhesive remover to get the remaining adhesive residue off. That was how my dealer's service manager recommended to do it. The problem with mine was that the UV rays had ever so slightly discolored the exposed fiberglass and you can still see where the decals were. Yours being new, you shouldn't have that same issue.
- WVmtnhikerExplorerThanks for the hair dryer idea. I'm one of those guys that find many stickers and decals tacky. My new Apex is a 50th Anniversary Edition with quite a few decals. Some graphics are ok but the industry seems to be adding more all the time. In this case "Less is More".
Thanks again. - beemerphile1ExplorerHair dryer to warm the vinyl and then peel. Mineral spirits to remove remaining adhesive.
I leave the main graphics on my trailers but I always remove all the stupid stickers. On my Aliner I removed around 40 stickers and decals. - 1492ModeratorMoved from Forum Technical Support
- gboppExplorerWelcome to the forum. I think you have an unusual question, removing decals from a new unit so they don't weather.
Rather than removing them, did you consider protecting them so they stay new looking?
303 Protectant is a good product for protecting decals.
Enjoy your new Coachman.
