New TV - Ecoboost F150 to 6.7 F250

So the time has come to say goodbye to my much enjoyed and much loved F150 Ecoboost, I've recently upgraded to a much larger travel trailer (close to 10k lbs loaded) and it was time to get an appropriate tow vehicle to match. I originally went in looking for a leftover 2013 F250 with the 6.2, none were available locally that came close to fitting my needs or requirements, however they had a sale that fell through on this particular truck and really wanted to move it off the lot. I came in at the right time and ended up paying 19k less than MSRP for this truck including Line-x in the bed, a Bakflip tonneau cover and the paint protection package (was applied for the original purchaser). This truck stickered for 62,300.00$ and it ended up being cheaper than a 2014 XLT 6.2 gasser they had on the lot.

My Father in law was looking for a truck and ended up buying mine for the trade in value so he got a very good deal on his end too, plus i'll still get to see it and drive it every once in a while.

Here's to 2.5 years, 19k km's of towing, 68k km's and zero problems. Great truck, would buy it again.

The new truck is an XLT with the center console, backup cam, tailgate step, remote start and 3.31 gears, otherwise its a real workhorse. The 6.7 puts out 400hp and 800lb/ft and it feels every bit as strong as those numbers suggest, specially while towing my new beast. I look forward to hitting the hills and seeing it perform. Seeing as it is a bit plain, I will be changing wheels and adding a few things, otherwise I'm very pleased with it. no more worries about payload with this setup.

    I don't think anyone was suggesting you should have kept the Eco? I think most would agree an F250 is definitely the way to go for the amount of towing you do. As for the excellent unloaded mileage, well the 6.7 ford was the only modern diesel to beat the Eco under normal driving. It apparently has the best mileage of the diesels. (Cue to cummins fans to flame...)

    I'm curious what the statement "couldn't manage it down the road".
    Lots of tow tests of the Eco in excess of 7k, never read of a single issue other than lower than expected mileage. And often the mileage still exceeded other gas engines of comparable torque.

    Anybody saying that I should have stuck with the F150 Eco must of missed the fact that I put more twing miles on that truck in three summers than most will in 10+ years. I gave the half ton a chance with the new TT, as reading online "everybody" is towing 8500-9500lb TTs with half tons. Well, they can have it. It's not a fun setup and I won't pretend to say that it was anything but a miserable experience on the 2000+ km's I towed that combo with. Sure, it pulled it, but that was all it could do, couldn't manage it down the road.

    The new truck just got 22.5 mpg unloaded on a 3 hour drive on Tuesday. The ecoboost would of gotten 16-17 mpg so it's already proving to be at least as economical to run and it rides as well as my f150 did with 10 plys and airbags too.

    I'm the same way. For example, I know 24V drills can drive 3" lag screws all day (and break your wrist), but I've never once needed to do that. On the other hand, I do have to lift the weight every time I use it. So I bought a 12V because it's the right tool for the job.

    Same with my truck. I've never needed to tow 15k up a mountain, but I do need to drive it every day. So I went with a 1/2 ton gasser because it's the right tool for the job.

    It still amazes me how grown men get into pissing contests about having the biggest and fastest. Didn't we get over that in high school?

    I disagree. The Eco will be operationally cheaper, a nicer drive, better ride, handling and braking, and quicker, while still being reasonable to buy, insure and park. And completely adequate as a TV and a DD.

    I suppose some folks buy the biggest hammer on the shelf, and tolerate all its shortcomings, others prefer a tool that suits the task.
    I am in the latter category.

    Otherwise, why not just cut the******and buy an F450, bigger is better, right?

    The OP is towing bigger than 6K, so I am not suggesting that his vehicle is anything less than ideal for his situation. For a 9K trailer, strictly for towing, an F150 is not going to match a 250 in any aspect.

    Not in my case. I KNOW what I want .... the truck to put all this foolishness about TV capabilities to rest - Ford F350 diesel King Ranch or better. Been wanting that for years. Also wanted a new RV so I upgraded my truck's towing capability and got the trailer in my sig. Works for me especially seeing it is my daily driver. Still want the diesel though.

    At this point it is all about the money. :(

    air bags. they will soften the ride with the trailer but that trailer doesn't look that heavy.

    put the eco & the 6.7 on a 6% with loads and see which is quicker. This is about towing. Half tons shouldn't tow anything larger than a uhaul trailer. Now let the fireworks begin.

    This is our 2nd 6.7 and I am STILL happy with it... the 250 was just a bit too soft in the privates and we had to upgrade to the 350...

    While I tuned and tinkered with every engine I had (including the wife's) up until the 2012 250, I have had no need/want to mess with either it nor the 350 as they do DD and towing just fine !

    but don't worry, this is rv.net - the weight police will be along shortly to tell you how you did wrong with the 250 as well :)

    yup, but it's nothing like the 6.7 when towing - tradeoff. Frankly, if I want speed, my Mustang GT will get the job done.

    U can't tow with a stang, the discussion was about tow vehicles. I was merely pointing out that the ECO is much quicker, and remains quicker until you put more than 6K behind it.


    If the discussion is about tow vehicles. The F250 6.7 diesel is a much better tow vehicle than the Eco boost 150. You are talking tow vehicles here, are you? Even if you tow less than 6000#, the 6.7 tows better than the eco boost. Hands down.
