Pretty much reflects the love for that pickup in general. Those are impressive numbers, but there are 5.3's making over a 1000 hp and few people want one of those either. Maybe there will come a day when people feel better about that motor, but it's not today.

Yeah, Nissan could have done something really impressive with that truck, but instead decided to try and tell the market what it needs instead of what it wants. I think if they would have put in full float axles with at least 6k capacity and a 10k GVWR, it would have been the only class 2b (3/4 ton) diesel truck with a payload of more than 3k and weighed less than 7k lbs. Not using the VGT turbo version of the 5.0L which has an exhaust brake is another downfall.


They would probably get more than a passing look by most truck owners if the did that.

It was a ballsy move to take that pickup in the direction they did, given their position in the market. They would either be a hero or a zero, and I think for a variety of reasons it appears they came out much closer to zero. The rumor was Toyota was interested in that motor as well, but I have not heard anything for a long time about that.

I was originally intrigued by this truck. My camper is about 8k lbs, so kinda heavy for 1/2 tons, but kinda light for a 3/4 ton, and I thought the diesel Titan might be just right!! But is is priced like a 3/4 ton, and gets the mileage of a 3/4 ton, but not as heavy duty as a 3/4 ton. So with I think I'll end up just with a 3/4 ton gasser.

Like others has said the EPA is killing the diesels. Hopefully the manufacurers will figure out a way to make them clean, reliable, and powerful.

You mean they're not?! A new 6.7L PSD is twice my 6.0L in every way. Think they've done a pretty good job in the years since.

If the one my next door neighbor has is even a remote indication of quality and durability then stay away. He's in the middle of a PA Lemon Law case with it right now. It was in the shop more than out since the day he brought it home for all kinds of stuff, a lot of it electrical in nature. A total POS. Sharp looking though. I don't think he had any "engine issues" per se but the rest of the thing appears to be absolute junk.

I’ve had Ford and Dodge lemons or almost lemons too. Nissan generally builds quality vehicles. On the flip side, a buddy had an older Titan. And he does basically zero preventative maintenance. Tires get rotated when they wear out, oil gets changed when the oil light comes on type of thing. He beat the snot out of a titan for about 100k miles and had a coolant leak, first real issue, and traded it on a new truck Dodge diesel.
We’ve since worked on his ways and got him at least doing basic maintenance on time.
He!!, he smashed the tower on his boat one year, brought it out next year still broke. We square lashed it with half of his old ski rope, used it for a week and next year it was still like that but the rope broke when I ripped a backroll off of it because it sat in the sun for a year! Same dude had a leak in a ballast drain we rigged with a hose clamp and a baby toy. He never removed it. It became a permanent fix!
Way off topic but he got good use out of a Titan considering.

Agreed Nissan is not the front runner in trucks, probably dead last, but you can buy em a lot cheaper because of it.
They and Yoda could make a splash with HDs not sure why they don’t. Probably because they’re more global than NA.
