Polypropylene Holding Tank Bulkhead Fittings

Can I use bulkhead fittings going into the side of my holding tank? I have a 1 1/2 drain I'm adding for my Truck camper and there isn't room to go back up to the top of the tank without making drastic changes.

Can I use a bulkhead fitting mounted higher on the side?

If so, would this type of fitting work? Double Slip Bulkhead

Thanks all!
  • I may have to give that a shot instead. I have zero top room anyways and have a grommet for 1.5. Worst case I make a bigger hole for a bulkhead

For the few times I've used them, the tank grommets work well. They never leaked. Your bulkhead fitting is OK but you'll need to make sure that you can tighten that gasket against the tank. I'd probably try to use some sealer if using that bulkhead fitting.

    Good luck!

Have you ever used tank grommets going in the side of a tank though?

I think there may be one in my black tank drain in the Starcraft. It's been a while but IIRC, the grommets seal really well.

Going IN lol should have clarified, I'll have a good 3 to 6" worth of downward angle prior to this.

Going this route since I dont think the slip fit fittings I got Slip fitting
Will work on the side. Pretty sure they are vertical only.

I think I'd get it a Lowes or Menards and save the shipping plus you'll have a better selection.

    They have nothing over 1"

Yes, it will work fine, Your issue will be holding the inner to attach the outer so make sure you have access (to get your hand inside) to get inside the tank before you holesaw the hole or you are basically screwed big time.
  • Why would you go back up to top for a drain :H

Is this a drain going IN to tank or for 'draining' tank?

Sidewall is OK as is that bulkhead fitting

Drain going IN...as high on sidewall as possible.
Full tank backing up into drain line

Drain going OUT...as low as possible so very little stuff will be caught by 'lip' when dumping tank
