That's like asking "Is it Hotter down South than it is in the summer?" Depends on if you are in Yuma or Olympic.

Thanks for the help. I use the un-scientific method of feeling the tire's at every stop. I hoped the Dr would be cooler. I tend to slow down some in the summer when temps are higher. Only run 65 to 70. It's hard to run 60

The D tire will run cooler at 65 psi than a C tire at 50 psi carrying the same weight.
I ran two 16' 7k cargo trailers with 3500 lb axles I used in my business as our job site tool trailers. They came with 15" P and C tires. Moved up to a 15" D tire and they ran much cooler to the touch. When you make a living on the road pulling trailers you learn fast what to feel and how to feel for tire/wheel/hub temp changes.

I would speculate that if you had Ds on one axle at 65 psi and Cs on the other axle at 50 psi and loaded close to the C maximum.... the Ds would run cooler.

I went from LR B tires to LR D tires and I notice the D's run 'cooler' to me..

I could only run the B tires at a max of 35 psi. They always seemed 'warmer' to the touch at rest stops by my hand.. Went to the D's and run them at 55 psi (max is 65 psi) and they just seem cooler to the touch by my hand..

Yes, I know my 'hand' is not a thermometer.. ๐Ÿ˜‰ But, it's all I had when I had the B rated tires, so that's all I got!

But, in the end, I feel better with the D's than the B's and I'm on my second set of the D's.. ๐Ÿ™‚

Just my experience and that's all!

Tough question , you would need more info and digital monitoring of the temps to really know. Weight, roads surface, road temp, etc.

reasons:
Rims also have PSI ratings. If the 6 ply tire has a 50# PSI rating , it should go on a 50# PSI rim. That combo will run at a certain temp.
The 8 ply has a 65# PSI and should go on a 65# rim. That might change the temp., but...........

The other part of the question might be the extra weight of the "D" tire.
Might need more energy to rotate so it might not run cooler.

You are not giving much info, but if talking ST trailer tires, they are recommended to run at max sidewall pressure. So if you had the same load on a C rated 50 psi tire, as a D-rated 65 psi, I would expect the D to run cooler.

Some of the newer STs are redesigned to run cooler, and thus rated to run at higher speed of 81 mph. Goodyear Endurance, Carlisle HD, and Provider, are three that I know of. Even though we don't need to tow 81 mph, it is good some tire makers are taking steps to improve on reliability.
