I have had a Bigfoot Truck Camper for several years now, in fact this is my second camper. Every two years I buy a new truck just to haul the camper around. So between the camper and truck I have a fair amount of money invested in truck camping. I hardly use the truck for anything beside truck camping.The kids no longer go camping with us but the grand kids do, so my wife wants to move to a Class A, or C camper.I have been to Alaska with my truck camper and in every corner of Canada plus several different States in the United States.I like my truck camper mainly because I can take it anywhere.You may have noticed that I didn't said "my wife wants to move upto a Class A or C. That's because I don't figure its a move up.I was just wondering if I am the only person out there getting pressure to go to a different type of camper?I have won for 2019 but 2020 is coming soon. LOL

Best to keep wife happy. There are many people out there that wouldn't want to travel extensively in an RV at all so if as she gets older wants a little more comfort I think that's reasonable.Many who go with large RV's like class A tow a vehicle behind them so there is also opportunity to explore well off the beaten path.

My wife wants to go the other way from an A to something smaller or a SUV for travel. She just never felt safe on mountain roads especially after two front end failures. Getting older does not help either. Fear is not logical, and everyone's fear or thought process is different.

Consider that Class A is the vehicle class with least safety build in. When roll over accidents don't happen often, any in such vehicle has to bring fatalities. ClassC offers good safety for 2 front occupants, but those seating in the rear have not much safety protection. Even safety belts in many of them are just screw into wood floor. When I was traveling with my sons, I ended up with bus conversion as that was the only thing in the class with roll-over ratings. Since you have new truck, why not just buy TT?. No human can not seat in them while on the road- so they don't have observe safety rules, what allows design with huge double slides, where living room is bigger, than some stick houses have. Have seen one of those only 28' long, but seeing recliners, fireplace and kitchen island made my jaw drop.

At the last RV show, I was speaking with a couple and the wife wanted the largest fifth wheel available while the husband wanted something under 30'. I asked her if she was willing to share some of the driving plus be a spotter in those tight parks or fueling stations. I also asked her if she was willing to give up visiting or camping in some areas because the size of her desired trailer. I think I helped out the husband but I was probably black listed from talking to him further. I didn't find out if they actually bought anything much less the size of the unit.I cannot justify turning over vehicles every other year, so my decisions have to last much longer. If you are in a position where you can pick up a new Class C for about the price of a pickup, maybe you should try it for a couple years?

My California friends placed an order for new ClassC while seeing it at Livermore show in January (?)
Single slide, I remember 28' and not only 140 grands, but they still have to wait till May for delivery.

We were thinking about a different RV. Our last trip changed our mind back. It was simply way more convenient to stay with what we have. I will say traveling with kids in a Class A is pretty awesome. We had a Class A when the kids were growing up. With the huge windows, the view is so much better from every seat in the coach.

I don’t believe Class As are unsafe. The data I’ve found says RVs in general are safer than other vehicles if you are talking fatalities. Sure, some RVs don’t have a solid structure, but many do, but they cost more.

Statistics are useless without explanation.
RV are driven much slower and more carefully than average car, so their number of accidents per driven mile is much lower.
Would you add golf carts to the statistics, they would beat all others hands down.
But would you consider golf cart safe vehicle in roll-over or head-on accident?
Heck no.
So correct comparison would be number of deaths in 1000 ClassA roll-overs v/s number of deaths in 1000 pickups roll-overs.

Get a Class A. The extra room and nice view out front and better chassis for all your stuff and towing
