Because of the iffy December weather (sleet, freezing temps, ice slick hills) we leave mid-to-late November. The good news is that November 1 kicks off Branson's Christmas season at the shows and at Silver Dollar City's amazing light displays, so you can enjoy an early start and still get what you're looking for. If you come in October, you will see some of the most beautiful fall foliage to be found. Also lots to do. Sounds like a weird tourist attraction, but Harrison, AR is 35 miles south of Branson and its cemetery has over 100 mature maple trees that have awesome color in the fall. Travel from CA during October and November shouldn't pose any problems.Re: Here's why we're dropping all GS coveragePM sentRe: Here's why we're dropping all GS coverageOh, how easily a thread gets hijacked.:W I was kinda expecting a reply from the GS team, since op was placed in the Roadside Assistance forum. Like an explanation, apology for incompetence...something.Here's why we're dropping all GS coverageLast July we purchased Good Sam Roadside Assistance for $99.00. Luckily we had no occasion to use it. We were aware it was coming up for renewal, so we weren't surprised to receive a mailing stating, "Invoice Enclosed, Platinum Membership," and "New Membership Cards Enclosed." As with all GS mailings, you never can tell what is a sales "come-on" and what is legitimate. The cards were heavy plastic and looked real. However, one card had my husband's name on it and the other card had some woman's name we'd never heard of. And, upon further inspection we saw that there was a different account number, but the number of years as a customer was correct. I called GS customer service and explained that we couldn't tell what we were supposed to do with the mailing. The snotty representative flippantly gave me the spiel about being given a trial membership until July. She should have been able to tell that we were actual members whose service was up for renewal. Not very bright and not service-oriented. She couldn't explain who this other woman was or why her card was in our mailing. I told her to cancel our membership. We have since gone with Coach Net for Roadside Assistance and Sky Med for Travel Assistance. How do you get off the GS mailing list?Re: Good Sam confusion at Camping World Bumpyroad wrote: wait a sec., you could have bought out the store and charged it to john doe? bumpy No Bumpy...we still had to use our own credit card.Re: Good Sam confusion at Camping WorldWow! Less than 5 minutes after posting this comment, we received a call from a corporate representative who solved the issue to our satisfaction. He told me to put his direct number on speed dial. Can't ask for anything more.Good Sam confusion at Camping WorldWe bought items today at Camping World, Springfield, MO, and when checking out we handed the checker our Good Sam card. She entered the number, then called us by some name we'd never heard of. Seems our number (which we've had for almost ten years) was in the system under a "John Doe." She checked us out under John Doe's name and number and gave us the phone number to call to straighten it out, which we called when we got back to the RV. After annoying commercials and a long wait for a representative (that's a whole 'nother issue), the rep said it was impossible...couldn't happen. But after conferring with his supervisor he informed me that our Good Sam Club membership number was the same as John Doe's Good Sam Roadside Assistance number. So, now we have John Doe's name and his Roadside Assistance number. Don't think he'd be too happy about that. With all the possible numeric/alpha combinations that can be used, why should there be duplicates for any of the Good Sam service organizations? Makes me wonder who is looking at a Camping World receipt with my name and Roadside Assistance number on it. I cancelled our Good Sam membership. Now that I know how the system works, I'll cancel Roadside Assistance and Travel Assist. I don't trust corporate to handle my personal information.Re: Camping Altercations? In 42 years of camping, can't remember an altercation until January of this year while camped at a Thousand Trails park in So. Cal. We were parked in a pull thru site, when late in the day in comes a DP pulling a monstrous trailer filled with 15 dirt bikes. Being retired bikers, we had no problem with the new arrivals. They pulled in the opposite way, making it a buddy site with their exhaust pipe 2 ft. from our slide out. The next morning off they went, not to be seen again for two weeks. They returned after dark one night while we were eating supper, and fired up the diesel so they could load the bikes. The fumes begin filtering in our slide out and within 10 minutes we gave up on dinner. After 20 minutes we had to evacuate, with two dogs and a cat carrier. DH and I stood by our rig and glared at them but said nothing. After 30 minutes, DH went to a phone (no cell service) to call a Ranger (no luck). After 45 minutes, one of the men came over in my face and said, "Glaring at us won't make us go any faster. Why don't you just get in your car and go somewhere?" Well, so much for keeping my mouth shut. I'm sure our fellow campers could hear the back-and-forth exchange. I not-so-politely told them they could have pulled off the park exit road to load up. After almost an hour of idling, they finally pulled out. The next morning DH found a wallet belonging to one of the guys, lying in the middle of their site, with a $100 bill in it and lots of credit cards. Oh, how tempting it was to take it to San Diego and toss it on the sidewalk. We gave it to the TT manager.Re: What Do You Wish Your Partner Had Done Before They Died?Chuck was a blessing to many people and will be remembered with each visit to this site. Heartfelt condolences to Gail and his family. Our son's terminal cancer journey has taught me to live and love the best I can each day, because all of us are but a diagnosis away from the same journey. The ups and downs and hopes and fears, good days and bad days, pain and days of less pain, and finally resignation and embracing the spiritual journey. It's a courageous and lonely fight, since no loved one can walk the exact same path. Grace and peace to all. B.Re: What Do You Wish Your Partner Had Done Before They Died? Our 37-year-old son has been fighting stage 4 colorectal cancer for four years. It has metastasized to his spine and lung, and now a new tumor has appeared at the original site. He has a wife and five children, ages 10 down to a one-year-old. He's hoping the oncologists can find a chemo drug that will be effective against the types of cancer he has. So far, not much good news. During one of our conversations, he was trying to decide whether it was better to know you were dying and have time to take care of things, or to just die instantly in a car wreck. Very hard question. Chuck, if you have children and grandchildren, what about making a video or videos, telling them things you would want them to know now and in the future? Or write them letters. Or keep a journal to leave for them. If it were my husband dying, I'd want him to agree to hospice care during the final days/weeks. I'd want to spend those precious hours as his wife and not as his caregiver. I would love to have his bible, with a meaningful inscription. May the Lord give both of you comfort and encouragement.
