All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsOnan Generator No StartI have an intermitant problem on my 94 Newmar I'm hoping someone can help with. It has a Onan Emerald 6500 Watt gas generator. It will often start just fine, no problems. However, once in a while, it won't start. I hit the button, and I get a single loud click, and that's it. I found lots of posts commenting on loud clicking (as in multiple clicks), but in my case I get one click only. My high tech solution has been to find that if I take a good size wrench, and while holding the start button, whack the side of the genny control panel, it will fire right up. I'm thinking either the starter solenoid or the starter itself, but that's as far as I can take it myself. Hoping someone else has seen this before. Thanks.Re: Onan operator manualManaged to find it. For reference, if anyone wants it http://www.cumminsonan.com/www/pdf/manuals/965-0128.pdfRe: Onan operator manualGreat, that's what I'm looking for. However, I can't seem to print it unless you pay to sign up for their site. Don't suppose there's a free version available somewhere. Thanks.Onan operator manualDoes anyone have a link to an operator's manual for the Onan Emerald Plus 6500 gas generators? I'm trying to compile my missing manuals for my 94 Newmar, and I can't seem to find that one. Found the service manual, but not the actual operator's manual. Thanks.Re: Cyclone vent install- mount to existing sewer cap collar?Although I can't offer any direct advice to your question, I can tell you that for us, the Cyclone made all the difference. It was very stinky on even short highway trips (our usual stomping grounds are only 20 miles out). We recently went to a little farther one (100 miles) and with the wife's sensitive nose/stomach, decided to try it. Worked like a charm, didn't smell a darn thing.Re: Tag Axle and storage/parkingMine is all manually controlled. No fancy system to have it automatically engage at 10mph :) While Mike is certainly right, my tag doesn't actually lift, if I flip the switch to 'exhaust' it will drain the air tank and take the pressure off the tag (and put it on the dually). One thing for sure, if I hit the exhaust switch, and let it drain, definately a pretty good lean backwards on the unit :)Tag Axle and storage/parkingWhen you are parking your unit for a time (whether at camping, at home during the summer, or winter storage), do you keep the tag axle up or down? I can't seem to find any actual recommendation on this, and can sort of see a bit of both sides to it. If you keep the tag axle down, you're keeping pressure on the air system that holds it down for a longer period without any movement. If you keep it up, you're putting extra pressure on the main dually tires and suspension (although while parked at home/storage the unit should be fairly empty, but still) Thoughts/recommendations?Most verstaile/best cooking BBQ/cooking systemHey all, Been looking at upgrading our camping cooking arragement. Right now we have a standard portable BBQ that has certainly served us well, but pondering moving up in the world. First a bit on our situation. We are largely weekend campers, but hoping to move to more weeklong trips in the next couple of years. We recently bought a 1994 Newmar Kountry Star 34' Class A. It has a four burner stovetop inside, no oven. It does have a microwave for those little here's and theres (actually a convection microwave, but haven't really been brave enough to test out the actual cooking features beyong the normal microwave-make-stuff-hot part). We had been looking into the Camp Chef cooking systems. They do seem quite nice, but almost TOO nice in a way. I like the modular system for cooking more than just hamburgers and hot dogs (ie, bacon can be done on our existing BBQ, but not real well). The ability to expand it to all kinds of different goodies seems really, well, neat. However, it is kind of big, especially once you start adding on a couple of the cooking attachments. Sure we've got pretty good storage on the motorhome, but there are still limits :) Even from there, what Camp Chef base cooking system do people use? I liked the Pro 90, because it's specifically portable with the folding legs and all, but the Denali 3X is half the price, and the only difference I can see is that lack of folding legs. Thoughts/experiences? ThanksWhich Fantastic Fan do I have?We are still working on some of the minor bugs in our new to us 1994 Newmar. The unit comes equipped with two FantasticFans, neither of which are still in working condition. One seems to have an electrical/control bug, the other seems to have just died of old age (plastic holding the motor busted). I would like to replace them with similar units, as I have been able to get them operational enough to see what they do (not really usable when together, but enough when parked in the driveway and such). However, I am having trouble finding exactly what unit these are. I had read that the Fantastic Fans could be identified by a marking on their motor. However, both of these seem to have motors from Autotrol Corp, which says to me they may have been changed out once previously. To describe the system on the Fantastic Fan, I'm hoping that someone can help identify it, and even point me to where I can get replacement parts. It has an old style analog thermostat on the wall. The theory is as long as the unit is turned on, when it gets up to a certain temp, the motor will kick in, and open the roof vent. As the roof vent opens, a switch also trips the fan (if turned on) and it spins. Once the temp is lowered enough, the thermostat kicks out, the lid closes and the fan stops. Controls are limited. Keep in mind this was likely original equipment in 1994. Analog thermostat on the wall leads up to the rooftop unit. There is a single large switch for turning the operation on and off, a 0-1-2-3 speed fan selector, and the motor control knob, which can be pulled down for manual operation, or pushed up for automatic. If further info is needed I can try to see what I can see, but I'm somewhat limited in my knowledge. ThanksFantasticvent stuck?I have a couple Fantasticvents on my 1994 Newmar. Not sure exactly which model number, but look to be fairly basic. Both of them will not open. The motor seems to have power and WANTS to turn, but the lift mechanism is seized or something. Even trying to open it manually, it won't budge. Looks like the prior owner may have had the same problem as the plastic interior case is broken and then patched up around the gearing motor (likely too much back torque by the motor, snapped the plastic inside.) Anyone else encountered this?
