Our new-to-us 2001 Coachmen Leprechaun has an electrical issue that has me stumped. The house battery and converter that it came with where not producing adequate voltage and an RV tech that was working on something else told me to replace both and my problems should go away. I put in a Powermax PM3-55 and a couple good lead-acid batteries. Should have been good, right? While plugged in to shore power (sitting in our driveway) the coach voltage started to drop off and the new batteries were getting discharged. Testing with the batteries disconnected, I get about 12.6 vdc coming out of the converter, while lights, fan and fridge are running. When hooked to the coach load, house voltage drops down to about 11.6 vdc. I traced it back to the fuse panel under the bed hoping to isolate/identify (maybe) a ghost load or high resistance short to ground. Nope. A good 12.6 vdc feed is going to the fuse panel, but when I connect it to the fuse panel, it drops to1 11.6 vdc. Pulling out one fuse at a time, I expected to see which circuit is pulling it down. Again, nope. It stayed low throughout that exercise. So....I'm stumped. Is my brand-new converter bad? And can anyone tell me how a battery is supposed to charge while it is wired in parallel to the system load? Should I change the setting on the converter to a constant voltage instead of the fancy 3-stage charging? Any help would be much appreciated.71Views0likes7CommentsTrail-lite 211 b+ transfer switch location
I have a 2003 trail lite r-vision 211 motorhome that I just purchased. The generator wouldn’t start so I had a new carb put on and now it runs. When the mechanic tested the generator he turned on the air conditioner and once the compressor kicked on ac power was lost. He did not have time to dig deeper into the lost power so I thought it may just be a breaker issue. I brought the rv home to troubleshoot it myself and found that now my shore power also doesn’t provide any power to the unit. DC still works but no AC from either the shore power or generator. I had shore power prior to this issue. The air conditioner has worked on shore power before so that unit isn’t the problem. My thought is it is likely the transfer switch but I can’t find it. I followed the wires under the RV from both the shore power and the generator but get lost in the wiring as it goes behind the frame. Does anybody know where the transfer switch is located?Solved66Views0likes7CommentsChassis batteries not charging
I have a 2006 Tiffin Allegro Bay 38TDB Freightliner 26000. I currently have a TrippLite inverter/charger and have been plugged in to shore power constantly for over a year. I had to replace the 3 year old house batteries a couple of months ago due to the 12v system going down several times. Before the haters start hating please know that I never contemplated owning much less living in an RV. I got cancer and lost my home in 23 and was forced into this life. I am mechanically inclined and most of the repairs I have had to do myself as I now live on disability. Mechanic's daughter. I start the coach every once in awhile as I feel that it's necessary to let the fluids flow periodically in any engine. Yesterday, I went to start it since I'm moving to a different location and when I turn the key....nothing. That is the first time it hasn't started.Attempted to disconnect the series (2 6v deep cycles wires in a series) to charge them individually, and the charger won't charge. My voltmeter read 4.7 in each 6v. Help!?!? I don't know what to do now. Please be kind and helpful. I don't need negative comments. Thank you in advance for any help offered.81Views0likes14CommentsNeed help identifying a connector? Happy to help!
Hey everyone, I am part of the team at FindPigtails.com, but more importantly, I am just someone who really enjoys solving the puzzle of electrical connections in vehicles. Hi, I have a 2003 Allegro Bus 35IP. It has the Xantrex 458 Charger/Inverter option. I may need to replace the Xantrex and I am trying to figure out some of the factory wiring, specifically regarding the output from the inverter. There appear to be 2 AC circuits (2 20 AMP romex wires) coming out of the Xantrex inverter. I cannot determine where these are fused or how they tie into the primary 120v system. The main 120v Fuse panel has no current through it when the inverter is on (makes sense as to not backfeed the inverter) - yet all the branches work and have power. So really I have two questions: Are there fuses for the 2 output circuts from the inverter, if so where are they located? How does the inverter outputs tie into the 120v system without energizing the main 120v fuse panel?21Views0likes1Comment1999 Damon Intruder lost all power
I was on my way back from a long weekend. We were on the expressway and 30 minutes from home. My RV lost all power. The engine stopped, the dash was out, no steering, no breaks, nothing. Doing 55 MPH, I put it in neutral and tried starting, nothing. Luckily, we were able to get to the shoulder and come to a stop. I put it into part and tried to start. Again, nothing. Not even the electric break made noise when I turned on the ignition. Good thing for Good Sam. They arranged a tow truck and brought the RV home. Has anyone had an issue like this? Thoughts?238Views0likes26Commentsadd 2nd battery
I have a 4 year old 5th wheel that I just bought and it has one battery that is AGM 12v 110am @c100 12v 100am C20 it gets charged from a solar panel and I assume from my truck. My question is, can I just add one more battery that says AGM 12v 110am @c100 12v 100am C20 and hook up the 2 positives and the 2 negatives or will it not get charged correctly or ? My goal is to just have a bit more battery life as inexpensively as possible. I don't boondock, but once a while I am a campground without electricity and stay for one night. I do have a generator but it would be nice if my batteries would keep my 110 fridge running most of the night with the inverter and batteries. I have a 40' 5th wheel. Hi All, I am trying to help my buddy who is borrowing my Tioga and of course experienced problems his very first night of RV'ing! The power went out on the LEFT side of the stove-top range, meaning, the fan and light don't work now. (The stuff on the right of the rangetop are ok where you have the tank metering). The water pump works fine. At the same time, the socket in the loft area went out. We did a visual check of the fuses (and I know we should do a continuity test on them, as well) and they seemed ok, but I would greatly appreciate any suggestions beyond that. Thanks in advance for any help!37Views0likes1Comment
