- coloradotallmanExplorerI might be late to the game here, but I would take the Wolcott exit, 131 north to Bond, then the Grand County 1 to Kremmling. A couple of NFS campgrounds along the way. Then take the 40 through the beautiful Byers Canyon, soak in the Hot Sulphur Springs Resort, stay for free just outside of it at the State Wildlife area (although a train or two may go past at night) and then onto Granby, Grand Lake and RMNP. I've had our old 38 foot diesel and tow car over the GC 1 with no problem. Hey Bussssskipper, I thought your second home was in my primary hometown of Dillon, CO?

- IvylogExplorer IIIThe DW likes Silverthorne and the outlet shopping and I like 9 to Kremmling often staying at the Green River reservoir/Cow Creek CG. At Grand Lake I usually stay at USFS Stillwater CG on lake Grandby.

The next leg of our see-your-beautiful-state route is from Glenwood Springs to Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park, staying in Grand Lake.
Any recommendations on routes? How's 131 to 134 to 40 to 34?
Having followed your trip so far I'd suggest based on your previous routes to get to Silverthorne on I-70 take Rt 9 to Kremmling then Rt 40
to Rt 34 just before Granby and then on over to Grand Lake - then Trail Ridge to Estes.
Easy Beautiful drive - i'd think about doing the Trail ridge part early in the AM before traffic if you have an issue with that.
BOL,
What Bill said ^^^^^
Not a difficult drive at all, and it's quite beautiful, and a bit different, heading north on CO 9 between Silverthorne and Kremmling. Hot Sulphur Springs is a funky little town, worth a stop. - pconroy328ExplorerWe just did Steamboat to Estes last Saturday. That's US 40 to US 34 and through RMNP. Easy drive. Even traffic seemed light in RMNP.
Well, except for the people who stopped in the middle of the road to get out and take a picture of a moose.
These folks saw nothing wrong with blocking traffic. - jrpExplorerDepending on the size of your rig, state hwy 134 has some steep twisty sections going over Gore Pass, and if you have an issue its out in the middle of nowhere. You can take 131 all the way to US 40 near Steamboat, but then you have to climb Rabbit Ears Pass on 40. For the 10 yrs I lived in Steamboat, I preferred hwy 9 from Silverthorne to Kremmling to get to 40. The hwy 9 route will take about 15 mins longer, but a much easier drive and just as scenic.
- LaurenExplorerHaving driven those roads when living in CO, I would go along with Busskipper's route of 7 to 9 to 34 to 40 or even 70 to 40 to 34. I passes on the 70 are up there but it is interstate a and doable. But any routes I list would be fine with your equipment.
If staying in Grand Lake, make sure you get over to the east side where nearly all of the beauty and activity are. It is a good hour, with no traffic, to get over to Estes. Virtually all the viewpoints for RMNP along Trail Ridge are on the east side past the Visitor Center at the top. And the road to Bear Lake - a must - is over there as well. - BusskipperExplorer

BOL, - IDmanExplorerThat is the route I would take. It gets you off I-70 sooner and avoids Vail Pass, the Eisenhower Tunnel, and the steep and congested Berthoud Pass which is on U.S. 40.
All areas are pretty, some just more so than others.
