- dalehelmanExplorerI have driven it many times. Did it last may in a Porsche 911what a thrill. A definet no for any RV except class B or small class C.
- RFCN2ExplorerA fabulous drive in a Porsche with the top down. A terrible drive with a 40' motorhome. Not that it cannot be done, but maybe not fun.
- kalynzooExplorerNo no! Cliffs, turns so tight you can see you tail lights, beautiful day drive in the car, in an RV, take the 101. Really
- JohnG3Explorer IIDepends on your experience and comfort level. Check Google Earth and go to street view at some of the switchbacks. Great fun on the Harley. Not so much with the F250 CC longbed.

- Rocky2ExplorerI have done it...north to south, ok. South to north, not so much fun. The vistas are all on the ocean side and you will not be able to cross traffic to reach pull outs. I would camp at San Simeon SP and drive the toad on a day trip instead. Pretty much the same advice all the way up the California coast, the vista points are on the ocean side of the highway.
- suprzExplorerI lived in california for 28 years, been on PCH 100's of times. Heed the others warnings, and don't take it with the motorhome and toad! I would get to a destination another way, and take the toad to PCH, if you.want to.see it. And it is worth seeing

Carmel to San Simeon is 40' restricted, south of there 45' is ok.
It's not all narrow and twisty, but there are no exits or bypasses around the sections that hug a rugged coast. There's no way across the mountains to US101 between Carmel and CA46. - msmith1199Explorer IIThe road is fine and if you're comfortable driving your motorhome it's a fun drive. I recommend going from north to south because most of the turnouts are on the ocean side of the road. You'll want to be able to stop to let cars pass as well as stop to enjoy the view. I have a 35' DP and I tow a Dodge Dakota and I've done the North to South route several times without a problem and with nothing but fun and great views. I can't imagine 5 more feet is going to cause you to fall off the cliff.
Now having said this, if you are afraid of heights or are not comfortable in your motorhome on two lane windy roads then stick to the interstate. If California thought the road was too dangerous for motorhomes than the road would be restricted from all large vehicles. But it's only restricted to motorhomes over 45 feet. You'll be fine.
