- toedtoesExplorer IIII've been on both Hwy 1 and 116 but not towing. Hwy 1 is very pretty, but there are several very tight turns on a cliffside. They can be extremely intimidating, especially if you have someone approaching from the opposite direction.

I don't think this has anything to do with quality of the road. It just isn't as fast as the route through SR. If I drag the route to pass through BB, the time increases by 5 min, but distance is a bit shorter. From that I deduce that some part of the BB route is a bit slower, most likely the coastal stretch.
Streetview on Google Maps will be more informative.
